NTUSU Announcement: Circulation of an inaccurate online article regarding NTU Scholarships prioritising overseas students

Dear Fellow Union Members,

NTUSU has received information about the circulation of an inaccurate article on ScholarshipsCorner.com, regarding an advertisement promoting the “nanyang scholarships that provide priority only to overseas students”.

The Union wishes to take this opportunity to clarify that the stated article on ScholarshipsCorner.com is inaccurate and we have since clarified with the school about the misrepresentation of facts as suggested in the article.

The original terms in the scholarship that states “priority for overseas programmes” was being misrepresented in the article as “priority for overseas students”. This inaccurately portrays the unintended image of NTU scholarships forgoing the interests of the local student body, which is not within the Union’s understanding of the scholarship’s requirement.

We assure students that the school does not have such a view, and that there is no restriction as to the nationality of candidates as stated clearly on the school website.

The Union believes in providing equal opportunities for all local and international students, and would like to remind students to be be vigilant and wary of potential false information circulating online. Students are reminded to fact-check and verify sources before spreading or acting on them.

For more details, please visit the NTU Scholarships list and its requirements here.

[Clarification] HOCC Venue Change

With regards to the recent announcement of the HOCC venue change, NTUSU would like to share a clarification, on the behalf of the HOCC Committee, to provide more clarity for students.

We have outlined the current status of discussion as follow:

1. The HOCC Committee will be proceeding with the LKC LT as the venue for HOCC.

A confirmed venue would allow for more efficient planning of the event, avoiding last minute changes that the dance teams would have to execute. This is especially with the stricter guidelines due to COVID-19 SMM, which would require more time for planning.

2. There is no change to pax restrictions, even with the change in venue.

The HOCC Committee has derived at this conclusion after discusions with Dance Captains. Should you have any other concerns regarding this issue, you may raise it up to your Cultural Secretaries or your Dance Captains.

Despite the restrictions and changes that the team is managing, the HOCC Committee is doing their best to ensure a smooth run with this year's HOCC. We hope to seek the support and understanding of all participants and fellow students. We look forward to the amazing performances put up by the dance teams!
