Talk 1: Flip One Bit: Unlocking, Counting and Repairing Huge Grids of 0s and 1s
Binary matrices are behind QR codes, Wi-Fi error correction and encryption. This talk follows Alice and Bob through results from our recent paper: a smarter divide-and-conquer method inverts large binary matrices without getting stuck. No prior linear algebra needed: just bring curiosity about 0s and 1s.

Speaker Profile:
Ibrahim Mammadov is an MTech student in Software Engineering at NUS-ISS. He first-authored a paper in Mathematics (2026) on large binary matrices and wrote a Reed–Solomon codec thesis.

Talk 2: Do you want to be an SRE?
Join us as we explore the job scope, daily work, responsibilities of a Site Reliability Engineer and what you need to learn and do to get this job.

Speaker Profile:
Lai Xintao has been a SRE for almost 10 years. Beyond work, he is also the creator and maintainer of IRedis.

Hackerschool Week 12: Steal This Research Idea

πŸ“… Tuesday, 3 November, 7:00–9:00 pm
πŸ“ SR14 @ COM3-01-23
πŸ₯€ Refreshments will be served!

Every breakthrough app, startup, and AI tool begins with an idea, and many of those ideas first appear in research papers.

In this workshop, members from NUS SOC AI Society will teach you how to read and understand research papers and identify ideas with real-world potential. Along the way, we'll introduce you to some of AI's most exciting research areas and give you the chance to dive into a collection of carefully selected papers.

If you're a student interested in AI, entrepreneurship, building standout projects, or gaining an edge in internships and job applications, this workshop will show you where the future starts and how to be among the first to build it.
