1️⃣ What is a Research Problem?
A research problem is a question, conflict, or issue in a specific area that needs investigation or deeper understanding.
This becomes the problem that your research wants to study, understand, and address.
2️⃣ What is a Research Gap?
A research gap is the part that has been ignored, overlooked, or underexplored by previous researchers.
So, your research will fill this gap.
3️⃣ Why Is It Important?
i. It explains why your research matters
ii. It shows your study is original and useful
iii. It helps the committee understand the relevance and urgency of your topic
iv. It proves that you’ve read the existing literature and found a specific space for your contribution
4️⃣ How to Write It?
You should explain:
i. What is already known? (briefly)
ii. What is not yet studied? (the gap)
iii. What issue needs a solution or further exploration? (the problem)
iv. Why is it important to address this problem now?
5️⃣ What Does It Tell the Interview Panel?
i. You are not blindly choosing a topic, but you’ve identified a real issue
ii. You have done background reading and know where your study fits
iii. You are capable of contributing something valuable to knowledge or society
