Today's vote on the Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan aid bill was extremely difficult.

Republicans blocked the vote until the last moment, as long as procedure allowed.

The Senate was eventually able to vote for the passage of the bill further - 66:33. This time, 17 Republicans voted “yes” - still the same as on Thursday, but one less than on Sunday.

The final vote remains. (It will take place when the last Republican senator who has the right to block the procedure ends. They change each other in turns, each has an hour. Tentatively, this will happen somewhere at 4 a.m. Washington time, 11 Kiev time, 12 in Moscow. No one leaves).

But then there are problems.

Republicans opposed to aid to Ukraine launched an information campaign in which Elon Musk joined.

Republican J.D. Vance sent a letter to his fellow party members, in which he stated - attention! - that if Trump becomes president and refuses to provide aid to Ukraine, this law could become a reason for Democrats to impeach him.

Adequate Republicans themselves tried to convey to their colleagues that this is absolute nonsense, but, as they say, the warming up has begun.

The problem is that Elon Musk is dispersing all this; he launched a podcast on this topic and supported the Trumpist Vivek Ramaswamy, who spoke out against aid to Ukraine.

But worst of all, Speaker Johnson, sensing that the bill was close to passage in the Senate, issued a statement making it clear that under no circumstances would he bring it up for a vote in the House.

Lindsey Graham, who has always been a hawk for supporting Ukraine, also spoke out against it. Insiders call his change of shoes the most shocking, although old Lindsay seemed to have been replaced back in December. What you won't do to please Trump.

There remains hope for a discharge petition - a petition to relieve Johnson of powers under this bill. This is if there are at least 6 hawks among the Republicans in the House who are ready to oppose Johnson.

There are other options - breaking this bill into separate ones for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, new negotiations on migration reform, but all this is many times worse, because it is again postponed indefinitely with an unknown outcome.

But we will have the opportunity to talk about this later. The main thing now is that the bill finally passes at least in the Senate.

Azerbaijani armed forces opened fire on the border with Armenia
