Yellapragada SubbaRow was a 'rishi' of a scientist. If he is not well-known in our country it is because this genius pursued knowledge, like the sages yore, without a trace of ego. As director of research his name should have been at least at the top of the team. But it often came way down in alphabetical order. Neither the status of an Indian in early 20th century USA nor the demands of applied research stained the scholastic integrity of SubbaRow. Such was the strength of his moral fibre a strength which distinguished his personal and his professional life.
