Arms Factory Blockaded As Calls for Practical Solidarity With Palestine Grow

"Over 150 activists and trade union members are holding a mass picket blockading an arms factory, in protest over the use of UK arms exports in the current genocide against the Palestinian people.
The pickets are blocking the two key entrances to Instro Precision Ltd, a subsidiary of Israeli weapons manufacturer Elbit Systems, at a site in Sandwich, Kent. Protesters are banners that read “Workers for a Free Palestine” and “UK: Stop Arming Israel”.
The action comes in response to a call from Palestinian trade unions for the international labour movement to “end all forms of complicity with Israel’s crimes” by halting the trading of arms, all funding, and military research.
The UK has consistently sold arms to Israel, despite its illegal occupation of Palestine. UK industry provides 15% of the components in the F35 stealth combat aircraft that are currently being used in the bombardment of Gaza.
A member of Workers in Palestine, a coalition of Palestinian trade unions, said: “Many of the weapons used by Israel to sustain its settler colonial project and inflict catastrophic violence in Palestine are produced internationally, including in the UK.
“Pickets such as todays are a vital form of solidarity with the Palestinian people that can restrain Israel’s military capacity. The time to act is now.”
Abbie, an NHS junior doctor, said: “Seeing fellow doctors and their patients being killed is unbearable, and following the announcement that the healthcare system in Gaza has collapsed, many of us felt we had no choice but to take this action.
“We are disgusted by the role that the UK government and British arms industry is playing in enabling and resourcing the mass killings of civilians, with both the government and Labour shamefully refusing to call for a ceasefire.”
The blockade follows nearly a decade of occupations and direct action against UK factories of Elbit Systems factories by protest group Palestine Action. The Instro site in Kent was occupied by protesters in 2015, over arms sales to Israel and Afghanistan.
It comes amid growing calls for trade unions to commit to practical solidarity with Palestine.
Hundreds of members of Unite, which represents workers at a variety of weapons manufacturers in the UK including Babcock, Leonardo, and Thales, have signed an open letter calling on the union to pledge practical support to workers who refuse to build or handle weapons destined for Israel."

Rather than claim division, I would claim there are two intertwined movements right now.

-One is a *medical* freedom movement
-The other is a broad freedom movement

Whereas the *medical* freedom movement is entitled to not cover what is going on in Gaza, the broader freedom movement is choosing to cover it.

Some who are in the *medical* freedom group are now actively against the broad freedom movement, trying to limit the rights to protest of those they disagree with.

Others in the *medical* freedom movement are now aligned with the UK government and giving them carte blanche to violate the right to life of Palestinian civilians, therefore actively mobilizing against the freedom of people of other ethnicities.

I would like to add that when people died after toxic injection in other countries, we cared for them and tried to defend them across borders, we didn't say "It's their problem, I'm not taking sides, they're in another country".

Indiscriminate bombs are the new toxicity. What's to say that what is going on in Gaza can't be exported to any other 15 minute city once the label "terrorist run" is ascribed to it?

This channel aims to be broadly for freedom, including but not solely focused on medical freedom.

As the UK government is directly participating in what is going on in Gaza in at least seven ways, described in the article below, this is definitely a UK problem.

Some take sides with Sunak, Biden, Von der Leyen, and Netanyahu over this, others close their eyes to what former UN human rights commissioners who resigned from the UN over this are clearly describing as genocide.

We will not close our eyes, neither Cory, nor I.

We will keep our eyes open, wide open.

"The "human shields" argument is like if London had responded to an IRA attack by dropping thousands of bombs on Belfast, killing thousands of Irish civilians and hundreds of children, and justifying its bombing campaign by calling it an unfortunate but necessary measure to take out the IRA's Belfast Brigade because they're located in the same places as civilians.

It's like if the western political/media class defended and supported the carpet bombing of Belfast, saying "All those thousands of deaths are the fault of the IRA, because they're in Belfast where the civilians are. England has a right to defend itself, after all."

It's like if Belfast was walled in with nowhere for civilians to escape to, and London carpet bombed it targeting schools, churches and hospitals, and the western press framed this relentless assault on civilian buildings as "the UK-IRA war" in which London is exclusively bombing "IRA targets in Belfast".

It's like if the British spent a week dropping military explosives on locations it knew were packed with Irish children, and anyone who criticized this was accused of anti-Britishism and blood libel."

The Cenotaph is being used as part of a US January 6th Capitol Building type psyop. It's important not to be baited into this. It's a clear trap. Let's not be naïve about this or anything else right now.

A brief biographical note:

I was born in Rome, and after attending a nursery school run by Catholic nuns, I was moved at the age of 7 to a fully English school in Rome with an English-British curriculum.

The school was so English that if I was caught speaking Italian in class I had to write 100 lines on the blackboard "I must not speak Italian in class". I absolutely loved the school, the international students who had British, Italians, and all other nationalities and religions and ethnicities, and surprisingly many of the teachers, who were for the vast majority British and were also having a blast living in Rome. It was one big happy family.

Italian neighbourhood boys I played football with often referred to me as "The English" (boy) as my school had very different times and philosophy to theirs.

When I completed school I chose to continue the British system at University, I didn't have to, but chose to move to England, and lived first in Bath and then in London

In the early 2000s I tried living in Italy again, in Milan, but failed miserably twice, and within 6 months I was back living in London.

I have a British wife and two British children.

I support AS Roma football team since I held a season ticket in the Ultras zone of the "Curva Sud" in the 1980s and started supporting Chelsea when Zola, Vialli and Di Matteo were playing there.

I lived in Rome during the period of the "Years of Lead", the "Strategy of Tension", "GLADIO", the terrorism of the "Red Brigades" "far left" and neofascist "far right", which did the same things for the same reasons and were most probably run or infiltrated by the same NATO aligned operatives.

Everything that is happening now feels very familiar to me: I grew up with it, feels like home to me.

I moved to England in the Thatcherite period, and apart from those 6 months in Milan I lived here ever since.

The music of John Tavener I heard in a film by my now colleague and The Book of Vision executive producer US director Terrence Malick led me back to Orthodox Christianity and I now identify more as an Orthodox Christian, largely for musical now but even earlier for acquired family reasons.

I no longer believe in political "right" or "left" but think I am still learning from all political positions and theories.

My father was a (disillusioned and awake) corporate media journalist and film script writer. My scientific mentor was a bio-molecular physicist who had participated in the armed Resistance to German (Nazi) occupation. What he always said is that they were always a LOT more active than what is/was portrayed in films..
