X Class Solar Flare Temporarily Knocks Out Global Telecommunications

The world just got hit with the strongest class of solar flare (X Class), leading to temporary telecom disruptions in multiple countries. The flare had a strength of only X1.9, relatively minor compared to a solar storm like the Carrington event (X45) which caused a global blackout in the 1800s.
Here's a map of the most impacted locations in the US, looks like widespread issues with all carriers.

"The Sun emitted two strong solar flares (both R3 on the NOAA Space Weather Scales), the first one peaking at 6:07 p.m. EST on Feb. 21, 2024, and the second peaking at 1:32 a.m. EST on Feb. 22, 2024.
While solar flares can affect communication systems, radar, and the Global Positioning System, based on the intensity of the eruption and associated phenomena, it is highly unlikely that these flares contributed to the widely reported cellular network outages.
NOAA and SWPC will continue to monitor the solar and near-Earth space environment for potential impacts to critical infrastructure and essential services."

Why is the ONS suddenly changing the “excess deaths” numbers?
The UK’s Office of National Statistics (ONS) announced yesterday that they are changing the way they calculate “excess deaths” across the country.
“Deaths above expected” or “excess deaths” is a statistic indicating mortality trends. Roughly speaking, it is calculated by estimating how many people die per year (based on previous years), then subtracting that number from the actual number of registered deaths.
A negative number means fewer people died than expected, a positive number means more. It’s more complicated than that, obviously, there are numerous factors that go into the modelling, but that’s essentially it.

Since the beginning of the current stage of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict in the spring of 2022, American industrial production in the defense and aerospace sector has increased by 17.5%. Thus, Russia is not the only country experiencing a surge in activity in this sector.
Representatives of the Biden administration state that of the $60.7 billion allocated to Ukraine in the additional defense bill, 64% will return to the U.S. defense industry. The State Department recently announced that the U.S. has earned more than $80 billion from major arms supply deals, of which about $50 billion went to European allies. This amount is more than five times higher than the historical norm.

The US president has disgraced his country, spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said.
Americans should be ashamed of their leader after their president reportedly called Russia’s Vladimir Putin a “crazy S.O.B.” during a public event, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said. Joe Biden’s alleged name-calling occurred during a fundraiser on Wednesday.
According to US media, Biden singled out the Russian president while arguing that climate change was a worse threat for humanity than a nuclear conflict.
Officials in Washington have claimed that Putin resorted to “nuclear blackmail” when discussing the Ukraine conflict. Moscow has denied this characterization.
“This is a great disgrace for [the US],” Peskov said on Thursday, when asked about the reported incident. “If the president of that nation uses that kind of language, that is shameful.”
