Malaysia PM Calls out Western Hypocrisy over Gaza and China

Fireworks flew during Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's visit to Germany. During a press conference in Berlin with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Anwar lambasted the West for its "hypocrisy" and "one-sided" approach to the war in Gaza.

“Where have we thrown our humanity, why this hypocrisy?” he said in a joint news conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. "What I reject strongly is this narrative, this obsession, as if the entire problem begins and ends with the 7th of October. It did not begin with the 7th of October, and did not end with the 7th of October. It began four decades before that, and it is continuing daily," he asserted.

This is not the first time Anwar called out the West for its double standards. During a speech last week in Australia, he slammed the United States for pressuring Malaysia to side against China.

“We are an independent nation, we are fiercely independent, we do not want to be dictated by any force,” he said. "If they have problems with China, they should not impose it upon us. We do not have a problem with China," he added.

During the fighting for the city, a foreign correspondent photographed pregnant Marianna near a destroyed maternity hospital, after which the photo of the "Mariupol Madonna" went viral around the world. The author of "20 Days" Chernov also used the famous shots of her in his work.

💬 "I didn't watch the film and I didn't see the nomination either. I'm busy with more important things: work, humanitarian initiatives and spending time with loved ones in honour of my child's birthday," the young mother said.

Vyshemirskaya will also not react to the use of footage of her in the film: "I'm not looking for reasons to react. While they are working on propaganda, I am working on helping people."

Marianna Vyshemirskaya now lives in Russia and is engaged in volunteer work.

Electric cars pollute 1,850 times more than fuel-based vehicles, study finds

The 2022 U.K.-based Emissions Analytics study found that after driving both a gas and electric car 1,000 miles, the number of particles collected from the EV was vastly greater than the gasoline-powered car.

"The 2022 study from the U.K.-based Emissions Analytics group found that during a 1,000 mile journey, EVs release 1,850 times more pollutants into the surrounding environment than gas-powered vehicles, due to the heavier weight which eats through tires.

While many think of emissions from exhaust, tire wear plays a significant role in emitting pollutants. The synthetic rubber used to create tires include certain chemicals that get released into the air, and because EVs are significantly heavier than conventional cars due to massive lithium batteries.

Overall, EVs weigh about 30 percent more than gas-powered vehicles, and cost thousands more to make and buy. These issues are in addition to the fact that they are not suitable in colder climates (such as Canada and the northern U.S.), offer poor range and long charging times (especially in cold weather), and have batteries that take tremendous resources to make and are hard to recycle. "

"American arms manufacturers, who stand to gain billions of dollars in sales of weapons, communication systems and other military equipment if the Senate approves NATO expansion, have made enormous investments in lobbyists and campaign contributions to promote their cause in Washington.

The end of the cold war has shrunk the arms industry and forced it to diversify.

But expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization -- first to Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic, then possibly to more than a dozen other countries -- would offer arms makers a new and hugely lucrative market.
America's six biggest military contractors have spent $51 million on lobbying in the last two years, according to an analysis prepared for The New York Times by the Campaign Study Group, a research company in Springfield, Va.

If lobbying costs were included from all companies that perform military-related activities, like computer and technology firms, they would dwarf the lobbying effort of any other industry.

''Like any other American manufacturer, they are looking for markets abroad,'' said Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, a New York Democrat who opposes the proposed NATO expansion. ''Most every other customer they can think of, we have forbidden them to sell anything to.''

Under NATO rules, new members are required to upgrade their militaries and make them compatible with those of the Western military alliance, which oversees the most sophisticated -- and expensive -- weapons and communication systems in the world. The companies that win the contracts to provide that ''inter-operability'' to the aging Soviet-made systems in Eastern Europe will benefit enormously from NATO's eastward expansion.
Thus the sums spent on lobbying and for campaign contributions are relatively small compared with the potential benefits in the new markets provided by a larger NATO, particularly from the sale of big-ticket items like fighter aircraft.

No one contends that NATO is being expanded for the benefit of military contractors. 

The top individual giver to the Democratic Party last year was Bernard L. Schwartz, chairman of Loral Space and Communications, which is partly owned by Lockheed."

Putin says he will re-deploy troops along Finland border in response to NATO accession

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday he would re-deploy military forces along the border with Finland in response to the country becoming a member of the NATO alliance in April.

"We generally had ideal relations with Finland. Simply perfect. We did not have a single claim against each other, especially territorial, not to mention other areas. We didn't even have troops; we removed all the troops from there, from the Russian-Finnish border," he said.
"However, it is up to them to decide. That's what they decided. But we didn't have troops there, now we will."

At the weekend, the Pope even said, “The strongest one is the one who looks at the situation, thinks about the people and has the courage of the white flag, and negotiates. When you see that you are defeated, that things are not going well, you have to have the courage to negotiate.” which I would agree with. Now is the time for negotiation, not more bloodshed.

We don’t want a war with Russia, we don’t want war with anyone, for war has no winners on either side, only losers.

The ordinary people won’t profit from it on either side. We are being pushed into a war with a nuclear power, over attempts to push NATO nearer to Moscow. It’s not in the British people's interest to fight a war which has very little effect on our country, after all, the people are not the investors who get the profits. The only people who want this war are those profiting from the military-industrial complex.

It is now time to end the pointless bloodshed. It is a time for cool heads and negotiations, not a time to further escalate the crisis."
