Germany, which at the time was at the brink of the fall of the Weimar Republic and the coming to power of the Nazis and Adolf Hitler, would never again make another reparations payment."

"Wanting an end to the instability and a strong leader in government (both of which they felt would be good for business), in November of 1932 Hjalmar Schacht and several other leading German businessmen, including Fritz Thyssen, at the time an ardent Nazi supporter and chairman of Vereinigte Stahlwerke AG, one of the largest steel companies in the world[7], wrote a letter to Hindenburg urging him to post Hitler as chancellor. This was followed in early January, 1933 by a secret meeting at the home the German international banker Kurt von Schröder in the town of Cologne. Present at the meeting were Hitler, Nazi SS Chief Heinrich Himmler,[8] Hitler’s secretary and deputy Rudolf Hess,[9] recently resigned chancellor and friend of president Hindenburg, Franz von Papen, and Nazi Party economics advisor Wilhelm Keppler.
In April of 1933 Hitler asked Hjalmar Schacht to take back his old post of Reichsbank president, which Schacht had resigned from in 1930.
He therefore accepted Hitler’s offer and re-assumed the Reichsbank presidency; which also meant that he re-gained his seat on the board of directors of the Bank for International Settlements.
From all of this one can see that by mid 1933, just after Hitler came to power, the two Germans now on the board of the Bank for International Settlements, Hjalmar Schacht and Kurt von Schröder, were both well connected, not just in Nazi Germany but in the broader world of international banking. "In his biography of Montagu Norman [Bank of England], author John Hargrave [1] makes the following statement:
“It is quite certain that Norman did all he could to assist Hitlerism to gain and maintain political power, operating on the financial plane from his stronghold in Threadneedle Street.” (“Threadneedle Street” is the street in London on which the Bank of England is located) As evidence of his claim Hargrave goes on to describe a meeting that took place at the British central bank’s compound in early1934. Present at the meeting with Montagu Norman were Sir Robert Kindersley, Sir Josiah Stamp, Charles Hambro and Frank Tiarks, all of whom were directors of the Bank of England at the time. At the meeting, according to Hargrave, Norman spoke of, “…the political situation in Europe. A new power had established itself, a great ‘stabilizing force’, namely, Nazi Germany. Norman advised his co-workers to include Hitler in their plans for financing Europe. There was no opposition.”
Of course we know from the earlier installments in this series of the tight bond and friendship connecting Montagu Norman and Reichsbank president Hjalmar Schacht as co-founders of the BIS; and of the relationship between Nazi banker Kurt von Schröder and Frank Tiarks, who in addition to being a Bank of England director, was also a partner of London based J.H. Schroders and Co.
What Schacht was really doing, however, and his real mandate from Hitler, was the re-building of the German war machine; quite a trick when one factors in that doing so had been expressly forbidden by the Versailles Treaty ending World War I.
The truth of the matter is that Nazi Germany benefitted greatly just by being a member nation of the BIS. By 1939 the BIS had a total investment in Germany of nearly $100 million. In addition, as reported by Adam Lebor in “Tower of Basel,” the BIS gave Nazi Germany the opportunity to create normal business relations with other nations, and provided the Reichsbank with a volume of communication lines to other central banks. It gave both Schacht and Kurt von Schröder, as Germany’s BIS representatives, marvelous opportunities to gain financial and political intelligence on other member nations; and, by accepting the German Reichsbank on an equal footing with other central banks, it legitimized a bank and a nation that were engaged in a state sponsored terror campaign against, as well as rip off of, the German Jews. Schacht’s stature in the BIS served to make the criminal actions he and the Reichsbank were carrying out somehow acceptable, as if they were just normal business.
On March 18, 1939, a German Reichsbank official arrived at the National Bank of Czechoslovakia in Prague and ordered the directors there, under threat of death, to issue two instructions: the first ordered the BIS to transfer all of the gold held in the Czech BIS account at the Bank of England, some 23 metric tons worth, to the Reichsbank BIS account, also at the Bank of England. The second instruction ordered that nearly 27 metric tons of gold be transferred from the National Bank of Czechoslovakia’s account at the Bank of England to the BIS’s gold account there.
The governor of the Bank of England had no interest in whether Czechoslovakia was free or a Nazi colony. ‘Political’ considerations must not affect the BIS’s transactions. The transfer order, he said, must go through.”

We understand that the strikes are against early warning systems centred on threats from the south (Iran) which can either be interpreted as a point being made that is not over-strategic (because Iran is a Russian ally) or, more conspiratorially, that any Russian early warning to Iran of a strategic attack is denied its ally. As a lot of people are noting, everything is connected, each theatre of war and of great power competition. The Chinese PLA speech in support of the Russian military would appear to be Beijing's firm response to Washington's escalation of the situation. Given that Europe depends on high value export marketing and its major industrialists have relied on entering the Chinese market, the risks to Europe are now growing. We might also note that the massive air raid on Ukrainian critical infrastructure last night seems to have targeted the gas storage facilities in Ukraine reserved for the European Union. It is probable that strategic existential nuclear war is unlikely (though obviously not impossible) but the utterly inept ruling elites of Europe (including the UK) seem to be marching blindly towards potential disaster (tactical nuclear exchange and hybrid warfare directly affecting European agriculture and trade).

The authors of the article reminded that before the assassination attempt, Fico spoke out with the Hungarian Prime Minister against the candidacy of Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte to be the next NATO Secretary General.
The FT writes that while Fico is recovering from the assassination attempt, Slovakia is debating if Fico "will turn the page or will he seek revenge".
