Artist Hiroyuki Hamada writes: "How are transgenderism, AI, green capitalism, imperialism and other major topics of our time merge in this time and space? How we process our perceptions and thoughts is shaped according to official narratives forwarded by the corporate dominated social institutions. The ongoing restructuring process to perpetuate the imperial framework augments the draconian nature of the institutions while weakening their inherent roles to serve the people. As empty rituals justify the mechanism of authoritarian hierarchy, the vicious cycle of exploitation and subjugation generates more alienation and divisions among us. Some find themselves in a survival mode, others seek salvations in various reactionary trajectories—the only acceptable forms of dissent. How did we get here? Where do we go from here? More than 155,000 federal public servants under the Public Service Alliance of Canada are striking.

April 18, 2023:

"A work stoppage of that magnitude, one of the largest in Canadian history, will likely disrupt federal services across the country, possibly creating delays for passport applications and tax returns, as well as supply chain issues."

Residents of the Italian city of Udine saw a train with military equipment at the station

The footage was posted online, and later information appeared that the train was transporting 20 M109L self-propelled artillery units to Ukraine.

For reference: Italy purchased 155-mm American self-propelled guns M109 from the USA in the late 60s of the last century. Since then, the equipment has been upgraded twice, it has received the FH70 cannon, which is common in NATO.

Mathias Desmet’s explanation for how a society fell into lockstep with a false & dangerous narrative seemed to me to be plausible though it was an entirely new idea to me. I’ve never been one of the gang, I didn’t automatically like football or certain bands or fashions just because others did. It never occurred to me that this was one of the keys to acceptance, because that wasn’t important to me, either. Still isn’t.
So I listened to Desmet and thought “Oh well, yet another thing I’ve never understood about crowds and about the individuals that make them up”. I couldn’t critique it, either way.

But I have heard him say that a full blown long run conspiracy was absurd.
I don’t think that makes him controlled opposition (though if he is, this is it’s expression).
No, it makes him normal! Because most people don’t believe it’s even possible & think the very idea is tin foil hat absurd.
I would have been alongside them!
But I’m a scientist first and foremost so I don’t discard evidence from an a priori belief that since certain things are impossible, anything leading us in direction must be false.
I do think that’s the self-censorship that the majority apply without knowing it. It’s not an unreasonable shortcut, except when it’s wrong.
A serious weakness modern society has is a near total absence of faith. It’s said that “if you don’t believe in God, you don’t believe nothing, you’ll believe anything”.
Lack of belief (maybe I mean faith, I’m not sure, as I’m recently awake to recognition of forces greater than us) has attenuated if not excised a recognition even of the idea of evil: deliberate, planned harm of others for its own sake, cruelty without any concern for the suffering of others.
Many people to whom I’ve explained what I think is happening have responded with “No one would be so cruel!” or “Things like you describe used to happen in the past, but modern people aren’t capable of that”.
I see no reason at all why Desmet should be immune from such things.
I’m not saying he’s definitely not guilty of those things critics throw at him. Only that it seems entirely plausible to me that what he says fits perfectly with a mental model that’s common enough.
Best wishes
Mike

"Not only are leaders led into totalitarianism by crowds seeking greater social control, writes Desmet, but those leaders enact their totalitarianism “blindly”, under a hypnotic trance. “Totalitarian leaders are themselves caught in a form of hypnosis,” he explains. “The leaders are not only hypnotized by their ideology but also by the masses” (p. 110). Totalitarian tactics, therefore, “should be understood in terms of mass psychology rather than malicious, intentional deception” (p. 115).

Desmet’s deconstruction of the underlying social phenomenon, in other words, casts the progenitors of fear and hysteria — those in positions of power who devise and launch sophisticated propaganda campaigns to drive fear-driven narratives — as satiating the appetites of the crowd. Anyone who disagrees with this thesis, Desmet argues in Chapter 8, is a conspiracy theorist."

I agree with the faith based analysis given above by Mike. I think it's at the root of everything:

'"Lack of belief (maybe I mean faith, I’m not sure) has attenuated if not excised a recognition even of the idea of evil: deliberate, planned harm of others for its own sake, cruelty without any concern for the suffering of others."

I have known for decades that people in authority tend to be lying psychopaths. At least since 9/11 2001, so why didn't so many accept it then?

It's obvious that people in authority would lie about any "crisis", including a "pandemic", let alone "vaccines", or even "new generation vaccines."

So why did so many believe the lying psychopaths?

Because they wanted to.

That is why, in my view, Desmet's argument is absolutely correct: people who went along with the obvious lies called it upon themselves (and upon us too) because they shifted faith from the cultural idea of absolute moral truth, aka "God", into authority and "science": essentially into psychopaths and their tools.

Bring back absolute moral truth.

While the old US Embassy in London defined the space around it, creating a recognizable urban setting, the new US Embassy sits like an object in space rather than defining it, leaving awkward left over space all round.

@RobinMG

Even in its architectural language the new US Embassy is very awkward and bears no cultural memory of the architecture or urbanism of London. It could be anywhere, it is not culturally sustainable in any shape or form.
