The new Public Order Act

The coronation protestors were arrested under the new Public Order Act, which lowers the definition of "serious disruption" and which came into force on May 3rd.

Under the act, anyone obstructing major transport works or attaching to others, objects or buildings will lead to a criminal offence, carrying a maximum of 6 months imprisonment and/or an unlimited fine.

Interference with "key" national infrastructure can lead to a maximum penalty of 12 months imprisonment and/or an unlimited fine.

The Act also gives stop and search powers to police to "search for and seize objects which could be used to commit a protest-related offence.

Also, courts are now able to prohibit individuals from being in a specific place, being around certain people, holding certain objects and using the internet “to facilitate or encourage a person to commit a protest related offence.”

Now you know why lots campaigned so hard to have the bill struck out - unsuccessfully.

"At least 19 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines are set to expire by the end of the year in Canada, according to data received by The Canadian Press.

The federal central inventory currently has 18.5 million doses in stock, with 16.8 million of those bearing 2023 expiry dates, the Public Health Agency of Canada said.

There are more than eight million additional doses in provincial and territorial stockpiles, according to data provided by ministries and departments of health across the country.

Those numbers show more than two million of the provincial and territorial doses will expire by the end of the year.

However, that’s likely an underestimate because Ontario, New Brunswick and P.E.I. did not disclose the proportion of their doses that would expire by year-end. Ontario alone has 4.8 million COVID-19 vaccine doses in its supply."

The company forecasts a coronavirus market of $15 billion. This season's coronavirus hospitalization rate has been almost triple that of the flu. So, it's very likely those who go for a flu vaccine will want protection from the coronavirus too.

But Moderna isn't stopping here. The company is aiming to launch vaccine products across coronavirus, flu, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) -- and reap major rewards as early as 2027."
