"Auto industry analysts say Canada paid a big price to bring Volkswagen's first North American electric vehicle (EV) battery plant to St Thomas, Ont., but whether that money will deliver lasting benefit to the economy is a matter of debate.
On Wednesday, parliamentary budget officer Yves Giroux released a report detailing his calculations.
Giroux said it would cost the public at least $16.3 billion to build the plant, $2.8 billion more than the federal government first announced in April because of the differences in U.S. and Canadian corporate tax rules. It's expected production at the plant will start in 2027.
Giroux called the $16.3-billion sum "significant," but said he was unable to calculate the full economic spinoff from the factory because the federal government is still bound by confidentiality when it comes to Volkswagen's actual production numbers.
Beyond the estimated 1,400 jobs generated by the plant's construction, it's impossible to know how much economic activity the plant will generate or whether it will be enough to justify the gigantic bill for taxpayers, creating fodder for debate for years to come..."

Cardiologists link Covid vaccine to Warne’s death
"British cardiologist Dr Aseem Malhotra and Dr Chris Neil, who is president of the Australian Medical Professionals’ Society, said Warne’s post-mortem had revealed coronary atherosclerosis or heart disease.
Both claim their research has shown that a Covid-19 mRNA vaccine (which uses a copy of a molecule called messenger RNA to produce an immune response) can cause a rapid acceleration of coronary disease, especially in those who already have undetected mild heart disease.
It’s quite unusual for former international sportsmen to suffer a sudden cardiac death at such a young age, 52,” the PTI (Press Trust of India) news agency quoted Dr Malhotra as saying, in reference to Warne.
“At the same time, we also know Shane didn’t have the healthiest lifestyle in recent years, being both overweight and a smoker.
“It’s likely that some mild underlying furring of his arteries – as I’ve seen with my own patients and how my own father died – rapidly progressed in the months after he received two doses of the Pfizer mRNA Covid vaccine.”
Dr Neil said the evidence showed Covid vaccines can adversely affect the cardiovascular system in more ways than just myocarditis and pericarditis or forms of heart inflammation.
“Looking at the data, 20% of all notifications of heart attacks as suspected drug reactions ever reported to the TGA [Therapeutic Goods Administration] over 52 years have nominated a Covid vaccine as the suspected medicine. Most of these reports were made by doctors, so we know that many – including cardiologists – are concerned.”
