NEW YORK: Both Upstate Medical hospitals to require masks again as Covid cases tick up

"Syracuse, NY -- Upstate Medical’s two hospitals, University and Community General, reimposed mandatory face-masking Thursday morning after reporting an uptick in Covid-19 cases.

Covid testing is now also required for all patients being admitted to the hospitals, according to a memo sent to Upstate staff and provided to Syracuse.com.

“Effective immediately, mandatory masking is required by all staff, visitors, and patients in clinical areas of Upstate University Hospital, Upstate Community Hospital, and ambulatory clinical spaces,” the memo reads. “Clinical areas are defined as any location patients gather, wait, transport through, or receive care. Masking is strongly recommended in all non-clinical areas.”

The hospital reported an increase in staff out sick with Covid, an increase in patients hospitalized with Covid and more Covid found in wastewater from the hospitals and the community at large.

A new variant, EG.5, is responsible for the rise in cases, the hospital said.

“These numbers change all the time but there is an upward trend of Covid associated hospitalizations in our community,” Dr. Stephen Thomas, Upstate’s director of global health, said in a statement. “We are nowhere near where we were at our busiest point but we have more patients now than we did a month ago. Fortunately, we are well within our capacity to care for all of our patients.”

The masking and testing policies will be reviewed again in three weeks, the hospital said. The mask mandate at the hospital had been lifted April 27."

Is it about time for all the people who believe in the inalienable human rights principles of bodily autonomy (which includes no mandatory masks, tests, lockdowns, or vaccines) to get their priorities right perhaps and focus on what really matters in the situation we are currently in, rather than dream a world where suddenly all the populations will magically believe viruses and contagious diseases don't exist?

Dublin hospital imposes visiting restrictions due to Covid-19 outbreak

The latest outbreak at Clontarf Hospital comes as the HSE admits great unknowns about the impact of the virus and reinfections, long-term

"The hospital has had to limit visits to only one visitor per patient and no children are allowed on site.

Flowers are not allowed into the hospital, as they “pose a risk of infection to susceptible patients". Families are being offered a service of “sending love” via messages or letters to the hospital for loved ones, or for virtual visits via video calling."

Millions of us know we had an unprecedented illness in 2019-21. Typical widespread viral beginning, bacterial progression. Denying our lived experience is called gaslighting. Viruses exist according to the definition we always had of them. Given that, you are free to believe otherwise, but you're certainly undermining years of work on treatments & civil/human rights. I am no longer going to publicly engage on this misguided "debate" as its counterproductive to everything I fought for for 3 years.
