"Outgoing RIBA President Simon Allford said the last-minute nature of the school closures, which come days before pupils return to schools next week, was ‘shocking’ given repeated warnings over RAAC in the school estate.
'It’s shocking to see this advice issued, just days before schools are due to reopen,’ said Allford on his final day as RIBA president..
We have repeatedly raised concerns about the dangerous state of some school buildings – and the government has failed to fund desperately needed repairs.’
Colin Tait, civil and structural director at engineers Harley Haddow:
"It is surprising that this has suddenly become an issue, as the failure mechanisms of RAAC panels have long been discussed and on the radar of structural engineers. Across the UK, RAAC panels are present in a large number of buildings from police stations through to schools and hospitals.
From the mid-90s, the UK’s Building Research Establishment was publishing information guides on RAAC identification, potential failure modes, maintenance regimes and remedial works – this was all off the back of RAAC failures in the 80s.
As recently as 2019, warnings by the UK’s SCOSS (Standing Committee for Structural Safety) of a RAAC panel collapse in a school brought a renewed light to the subject. Respective government bodies made building owners aware of these potential risks at that time."

River of Freedom: A film review - Plain Sight - Dane Giraud
"Gaylene Barnes ‘River of Freedom’ is an independently released theatrical documentary that takes us into the heart of this dissent and difference, and the ‘bruising’ that hastened Ardern’s political decline. After a directive from then Speaker of the House Trevor Mallard for the media not to engage with protesters, it is a supreme irony that a document like this film should emerge, that patiently covers each development in the protest, almost moment to moment, while harvesting the myriad stories and worldviews of an eclectic collection of protesters. With a 2 and a ½ hour running time, many may be daunted by the prospect, but the film rarely lags. It often doesn’t feel like you are watching a film. You have been parachuted into the middle of the protest and are experiencing it firsthand.
For all our talk of diversity in the entertainment industry, many people are probably unaware of the tight reins on the representation of minorities in much New Zealand work, especially when it comes to Māori. Māori broadcasting (which I worked in for many years) is predominantly made up of the middle-class and the university-educated, many of whom make no bones that they feel entrusted with the image of Māori and therefore entitled to filter representation. ‘River of Freedom’ is notable for featuring many Māori, from around the motu, of various ages and from various walks, who collectively kill off the aforementioned racist mainstream media narrative around their participation. What is also worth noting is that rather than being puppeted by any far Right, the disproportionate presence of Māori saw the protest embrace a Māori kaupapa – with whakawhanaunatanga and manaakitanga flowing. Barnes charts this beautifully, and the establishment of an impressive, functioning village built on goodwill and cooperation, which many of the forgotten people present have likely craved after years of governmental neglect.
Because this is the film I saw. While anti-vaccine rhetoric is present (though plenty of protesters are represented who are not hardline on the issue) I was captivated by the tender, empathetic treatment of Kiwis never seen, never heard, never recorded, never published. Many present likely had a preexisting distrust of a system, and this cause and the event of the protest was a chance to remind the rest of New Zealand that they still exist. The moronic provocations of Trevor Mallard were a rallying cry, but the truth is the working poor have been sprayed with water and told to get off our collective lawn by successive governments for decades now. The poor are pests, to Labour and National. It wasn’t misinformation that led to the protests, dear Paula: many of these people know the true face of successive governments – a face your economic and social privilege makes you blind to.
You can tell when a director, or journalist for that matter, likes people, and Barnes clearly cared for every single person at the event and wanted to honor them, and their stories. This is likely because she was one of them – with a dog in the fight -which ends up a double-edged sword for the film."

"William Happer, professor emeritus in physics at Princeton University, and Richard Lindzen, professor emeritus of atmospheric science at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), argued that the claims used by the EPA to justify the new regulations aren’t based on scientific facts but rather political opinions and speculative models that have consistently proven to be wrong.
“The unscientific method of analysis, relying on consensus, peer review, government opinion, models that do not work, cherry-picking data and omitting voluminous contradictory data, is commonly employed in these studies and by the EPA in the Proposed Rule,” Mr. Happer and Mr. Lindzen wrote. “None of the studies provides scientific knowledge, and thus none provides any scientific support for the Proposed Rule.
“All of the models that predict catastrophic global warming fail the key test of the scientific method: they grossly overpredict the warming versus actual data. The scientific method proves there is no risk that fossil fuels and carbon dioxide will cause catastrophic warming and extreme weather.”

To those who may, for example, hear me speaking about what definitely classifies as conspiracy (a plan involving injecting billions of people with materials which are intentionally harmful) & object, saying “That’s not possible, because thousands of people would have to know about it and some would leak that information”, please listen to Anne Machon, who we’re told is a former MI5 officer.
I echo her point that very few people would know the entire picture. Because there is a nested set of plausible explanations for the desire to inject large numbers of people, I think it’s unlikely that more than a tiny number of people do know the entire plot. For all I know, I’m one of them, in my case, partly by listening to what we were told & realising it must be lies and partly through deduction, having stood in the shoes of a person in charge of drug discovery programs and experienced in the method used, so-called “rational drug design”. When I do that, put myself in their place and look at what was done, I work backwards from the outcome, which tells me about some of the decisions made. I am absolutely confident that, on several occasions, the only way you end up with these gene-based injections is if your intention was to cause injury, to maim & to kill.
How many people would have to know, not guess, what was intended? I could make the argument that it would not have to be more than two. For the whole industry, not per company. That person has to elect to choose the entire mRNA sequence encoding the piece of the genetic sequence of the alleged SARS-CoV-2 virus that is now called “the spike protein”.
The use of modified RNA residues is another decision. Electing to formulate in lipid nanoparticles is another.
Dose selection is, to me, a complete unknown. I would have no basis to choose 30 nanograms or 30 milligrams (that’s a million-fold range), so other information must have been available to inform that choice.
The second person is the sounding board for each of the design choices that would have had to be made.
Now, in practise, I’m sure many more people had a hand in designing the gene-based vaccines. But it’s not a large number of people by any means.

To those who may, for example, hear me speaking about what definitely classifies as conspiracy (a plan involving injecting billions of people with materials which are intentionally harmful) & object, saying “That’s not possible, because thousands of people would have to know about it and some would leak that information”, please listen to Anne Machon, who we’re told is a former MI5 officer.
I echo her point that very few people would know the entire picture. Because there is a nested set of plausible explanations for the desire to inject large numbers of people, I think it’s unlikely that more than a tiny number of people do know the entire plot. For all I know, I’m one of them, in my case, partly by listening to what we were told & realising it must be lies and partly through deduction, having stood in the shoes of a person in charge of drug discovery programs and experienced in the method used, so-called “rational drug design”. When I do that, put myself in their place and look at what was done, I work backwards from the outcome, which tells me about some of the decisions made. I am absolutely confident that, on several occasions, the only way you end up with these gene-based injections is if your intention was to cause injury, to maim & to kill.
How many people would have to know, not guess, what was intended? I could make the argument that it would not have to be more than two. For the whole industry, not per company. That person has to elect to choose the entire mRNA sequence encoding the piece of the genetic sequence of the alleged SARS-CoV-2 virus that is now called “the spike protein”.
The use of modified RNA residues is another decision. Electing to formulate in lipid nanoparticles is another.
Dose selection is, to me, a complete unknown. I would have no basis to choose 30 nanograms or 30 milligrams (that’s a million-fold range), so other information must have been available to inform that choice.
The second person is the sounding board for each of the design choices that would have had to be made.
Now, in practise, I’m sure many more people had a hand in designing the gene-based vaccines. But it’s not a large number of people by any means.
