"The Medieval Warm Period was a time of relative plenty in the UK. Robert Tombs describes a Shakespearean “well good land”: “The population tripled in 200 years, reaching… a level not attained again until the eighteenth century…people on average were taller than in the early nineteenth century (the low point) but slightly smaller than today…this reflects diet and health throughout childhood”. He goes on to describe what happened next: “In the second half of the thirteenth century, a disastrous fall in global temperature began, whether due to a series of volcanic eruptions or changing solar activity. It caused extreme weather fluctuations and poorer harvests round the globe”.

The inference here is that the risk is to the downside. A sudden drop in global temperatures would be catastrophic, and as Tombs points out, temperatures can – and have – fallen rapidly and disastrously, whatever today’s self-proclaimed climate ‘experts might claim. The current scientific projections of a gentle increase in temperatures by 1.5 (or even 2) degrees should elicit a shoulder shrug, an appreciation of a greening world (good for crop yields!), and some sensible contingency planning, not societal self-immolation while the rest of the world looks on, chuckling to themselves at our stupidity. As others have pointed out, it is only the West that is tossing away energy security. The poorest will suffer the most."

Will we be the masters of data, or will we be its slaves?
Shosana Zuboff's book The Age of Surveillance Capitalism is a detailed examination of the unprecedented power of surveillance capitalism and the quest by powerful corporations to predict and control human behavior. Zuboff identifies four key features in the logic of surveillance capitalism and explicitly follows the four key features identified by Google's chief economist, Hal Varian:
1. The drive toward more and more data extraction and analysis.
2. The development of new contractual forms using computer-monitoring and automation.
3. The desire to personalize and customize the services offered to users of digital platforms.
4. The use of the technological infrastructure to carry out continual experiments on its users and consumers.

Zuboff compares demanding privacy from surveillance capitalists or lobbying for an end to commercial surveillance on the Internet to asking Henry Ford to make each Model T by hand and states that such demands are existential threats that violate the basic mechanisms of the entity's survival.

Zuboff warns that principles of self-determination might be forfeited due to "ignorance, learned helplessness, inattention, inconvenience, habituation, or drift" and states that "we tend to rely on mental models, vocabularies, and tools distilled from past catastrophes," referring to the twentieth century's totalitarian nightmares or the monopolistic predations of Gilded Age capitalism, with countermeasures that have been developed to fight those earlier threats not being sufficient or even appropriate to meet the novel challenges.

She also poses the question: "will we be the masters of information, or will we be its slaves?" and states that "if the digital future is to be our home, then it is we who must make it so".

In her book, Zuboff discusses the differences between industrial capitalism and surveillance capitalism. Zuboff writes that as industrial capitalism exploited nature, surveillance capitalism exploits human nature.

US government debt surge by $275 billion in one day

Just two weeks ago, the national debt exceeded the $33 trillion mark. Now it is already at $33.44 trillion!

Thus, the government debt growth is now outpacing the economic growth.

At this pace, the amount of debt could grow by $1 trillion in a month.

There is currently no limit on the national debt because former Speaker McCarthy suspended it until 2025.

In its face, an important “first”, I believe: a class action lawsuit against the manufacturer of remdesivir.
It’s arguably harder for a judge to simply dismiss such a case than with a single plaintiff, but we’ll see.

In case not yet seen, there’s to be a discussion (hard to hold a debate when the other side is not attending) on the recently confirmed finding of circular (bacterial plasmid) in the “vaccines”, which in turn tells us that quality control is non-existent.
As an aside, with company management & regulators spectacular disinterested about what’s in these injections, I am also no longer confident about how other, completely unrelated pharmaceutical products are being made these days.
