"These USGS emails contain early drafts of DEFUSE, a proposal submitted to DARPA seeking an award under DARPA's PREEMPT program. DEFUSE, which was first published (in expurgated form) by DRASTIC (a loose collective promoting the lab-leak theory) and later by The Intercept (also in expurgated form), showed plans to insert a Furin Cleavage Site in SARS-like coronaviruses. Because this proposal involved the Wuhan Institute of Virology, the focal point of most popular lab-leak theories, it has become a hugely significant and controversial piece of the Covid-origin puzzle.
