Half a million people take to the streets of central London in protest against Starmer's foreign policy

In a powerful display of solidarity, an estimated half a million people filled the streets of central London to mark the 77th anniversary of the Nakba and protest Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza. The historic pro-Palestine demonstration called for urgent and decisive action from the UK government—including the immediate enforcement of a full arms embargo on Israel.

Reporting from the scene, Middle East Eye captured a wide range of voices, from Jewish protesters declaring “Not in our name,” to international allies like Greg Stoker, a former US Special Forces operative, who traced his solidarity with Palestine back to his military experience and disillusionment with U.S. foreign policy.

British activist Chris Kunzler pointed to a glaring gap in UK education on Palestinian history, while Palestinian ambassador Dr. Husam Zomlot called the march the largest and most sustained solidarity movement in British history. Despite growing censorship, Zomlot affirmed that the movement is gaining momentum, with people across the UK and beyond continuing to speak out and demand justice.

William Dalrymple: UK must not support Israel’s ‘medieval siege’ on Gaza

At Saturday’s massive march in London marking the 77th anniversary of the Nakba and protesting Israel’s war on Gaza, British historian and Empire podcast host William Dalrymple gave a scathing interview to Middle East Eye journalist Ava Warriner.

Dalrymple condemned Israel’s ongoing assault on Gaza as a “medieval siege”, accusing the Israeli government of openly pursuing the mass expulsion of Palestinians.

“There’s never been a point where the immorality of Israeli behaviour towards Palestinians is more clear.”

He also criticised the Labour Party’s silence, noting the sharp contrast between its reaction to civilian deaths in Ukraine and its muted response to Gaza. He warned that the party risks alienating its base over its stance on Gaza and rising arms sales to Israel.

The historian ended with a stark warning: the planned eviction of Gaza’s 2.1 million Palestinians, he said, would constitute one of the largest ethnic cleansing in history. “We cannot allow this to happen, and we cannot allow our government to support it,” he said.

U.S. Sanctions hit ICC Chief Prosecutor: Email Blocked, Bank Accounts Frozen, 900 Staff Banned from U.S. Entry

International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan was placed under U.S. sanctions by the Trump administration in February 2025, as part of an effort to coerce the court into halting investigations of Israeli abuses in Gaza.

His official Microsoft email account has been disabled, and his UK bank accounts frozen. Additionally, all 900 ICC staff members have been banned from entering the United States, accused of pursuing “illegitimate” investigations into alleged war crimes committed by Israel.

The U.S. government has threatened that any individual or organisation providing Khan with financial, material, or technological assistance could face fines or imprisonment.

Two U.S. based human rights organisations have confirmed they’ve ended cooperation with the ICC. One senior official noted that staff are now actively avoiding communication with court officials, citing fear of government retaliation.
