Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) is investigating a crash between one of its trains and a CFM train in Mozambique on Tuesday.

TFR said in a statement that the accident had occurred at around 17:15 on the mainline between Ressano Garcia in Mozambique and Komatipoort in South Africa.

“A Transnet Freight Rail train operated by CFM crew, as per the operating agreement for trains operating beyond the South African borders, collided with a CFM train that was shunting on the mainline between Ressano Garcia in Mozambique and Komatipoort in South Africa.

CFM is a state-owned company that oversees the railway system in Mozambique and its connected ports.

“The TFR train, which had been loaded with magnetite, departed from Komatipoort in Mpumalanga and was destined for Ressano Garcia. Investigations are under way to determine the cause of the accident,” TFR said.

A multi-disciplinary team led by South Africa Interpol Organised Crime, Detectives, Crime Intelligence and the Special Task Force (STF) have arrested a 46-year-old Israeli gang leader attached to a criminal organisation in Israel called the ‘Abergil Organisation’. The Israeli gang leader has been on Interpol’s Red Notice from 2015. He is a wanted suspect in Israel for conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder. According to Israeli authorities, the suspect is part of a notorious gang dealing in drug trafficking, extortion and other criminal activities.

During an early morning take down operation, the team pounced on an identified address in Bryanston and found the suspect and seven others, 12 firearms including 5 x assault rifles and 7 x pistols , 40 000 US Dollars, 3 suspected stolen motorcycles. Huge well done to South African Police Service .
