🗓 On September 15-22, 2024, the III Open World Astronomy Olympiad (OWAO) will take place in the Federal Territory “Sirius”.

The Olympiad is based on the best astronomical traditions, which brought together world-renowned specialists in the subject.

The event aims to strengthen scientific and educational partnerships with other countries as well as to identify talent in astronomy.

👉 The age of the Olympiad participants must not exceed 18 years, while the minimum age threshold is not established.

Not only captivating tasks but an extensive cultural program comprising lectures, creative and educational workshops and excursions are awaiting the participants. The program is available on the Olympiad website.

❗️Registration lasts until August 10, 2024.

⚓️ Сегодня в России отмечается День военно-морского флота! Наша страна входит в число крупнейших военно-морских держав мира, располагает всем необходимым для защиты национальных интересов на просторах мирового океана.

Подлинным началом российских военно-морских традиций считается постановление Боярской думы о строительстве регулярного флота от 30 октября 1696 года, принятое по представлению Петра I.

👉 Вот уже 328 лет корабли российского флота и их экипажи стоят на страже рубежей Отечества, по праву являются его гордостью и славой. В летописи нашего флота − триумфальные победы, кругосветные походы и великие географические открытия.

ВМФ Российской Федерации является преемником военного флота Российской империи и ВМФ СССР, организационно состоит из пяти оперативно-стратегических объединений: Северного, Тихоокеанского, Балтийского и Черноморского флотов, а также Каспийской флотилии.

⚓️ Today, on July 28, Russia celebrates Navy Day! Our country is among the world’s biggest naval powers and possesses everything it needs to protect our national interests in the world’s oceans.

The true origin of Russian naval traditions was the October 30, 1696 decree of the Boyar Duma on the construction of a regular fleet, accepted upon the recommendation of Peter the Great.

👉 For 328 years the ships of the Russian Navy and their crews have been guarding the borders and national interests of our Fatherland. The chronicles of our heroic Navy include triumphant naval battle victories, round-the-world cruises and great geographical discoveries.

The Navy Fleet of the Russian Federation is the successor of the Navy Fleet of Russia and the Navy Fleet of the Soviet Union. Structurally, the Russian Navy consists of five operational-strategic units: the Northern, the Pacific, the Baltic, and the Black Sea fleets and the Caspian Flotilla.

We are proud of the heroic history of the Russian Navy, and we cherish the memory of our naval commanders and sailors!

💬 Congratulations on Navy Day, a special day we always celebrate officially, with respect and love for our glorious Navy and pride for our country, a maritime power.

Russia acquired this crucial status due to its geopolitical standing, great geographical discoveries and an immense contribution to the exploration of the World Ocean, but most importantly, to the victories, hard work, determination, courage, and talent of our naval commanders and sailors.

⚠️ The US administration and the German government made a noteworthy statement concerning their plans to deploy US long-range precision missile systems in Germany in 2026.

The missiles could reach ranges of major Russian state and military facilities, administrative and industrial centres, and defence infrastructure. <...>

If the United States implements these plans, we will consider ourselves free from the previously assumed unilateral moratorium on the deployment of medium and shorter-range strike weapons, including increasing the capabilities of the coastal troops of our Navy.

Today, the development of such systems in Russia is nearing completion. We will take mirror measures to deploy them, taking into account the actions of the United States, its satellites in Europe and in other regions of the world.

👉 Today, we are paying increasing attention to Washington’s efforts to escalate tensions in connection with the flights by Russian strategic aircraft. Just to remind you, Russian strategic missile carriers have not performed any air patrols far from our borders since the collapse of the Soviet Union. Russia thought this was no longer needed, with the world having changed and the Cold War becoming a thing of the past. However, the United States chose to ignore this unilateral gesture of goodwill and continued patrolling the space in the proximity of our borders.

So, since 2007, we have resumed such flights as a response to the increased activity from US strategic and reconnaissance aircraft in the regions that we believe are sensitive for us. The move has aimed, among other things, to ensure security in the Asia-Pacific region.

🎖 Today, I would like to particularly note that many naval crews are fearlessly fighting in hot spots along the engagement line during the special military operation. Just like their great ancestors, they fight to defend Sevastopol and other ports of the Black Sea and Sea of Azov, delivering devastating blows to the enemy and destroying its military facilities.

☦️ On July 28, Russia celebrates the Baptism of Rus day.

On this day in 988, Prince Vladimir and his warriors were baptised in the city of Korsun (Chersonesus), the centre of Byzantian territory in Crimea.

By adopting one of the major world’s religions, our country tapped into the spiritual and cultural legacy of Byzantium, which considerably increased its international prestige, and to a great extent predetermined the historical path of Russia.

The baptism of Rus was an event of landmark significance.

"The Baptism of Rus, connected with Prince Vladimir’s historical choice, was of great importance in Russia’s history. Christianity established itself as a state unifying religion, and its Byzantine origins predetermined Russia’s future path as the largest stronghold of Orthodoxy and became a source of its identity".

⚡️ On the killing of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh

Moscow strongly condemns the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, who headed the political bureau within Hamas, a Palestinian movement. He died after a missile strike hit his residence in Tehran. It is worth noting that this attack took place while the Hamas leader was visiting Iran. He travelled there at an official invitation to take part in the inauguration ceremony of President-elect of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian.

It is obvious that those who organised this political assassination understood that these actions were fraught with dangerous consequences for the entire region. There is no doubt that Ismail Haniyeh’s killing will have an extremely negative impact on the indirect contacts between Hamas and Israel, which offered a framework for achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip on mutually acceptable terms.

❗️ Russia reiterates its insistent calls on all the parties involved to exercise restraint and avoid any steps that could dramatically worsen the security situation in the region, leading to a large-scale military confrontation.

Кому нужен мир на Ближнем Востоке?
 
Путь к предотвращению большой войны на Ближнем Востоке лежит через немедленное прекращение кровопролития в Газе. Следующим неотложным шагом должно стать возобновление мирного процесса между Израилем и Палестиной на основе двугосударственного решения. История свидетельствует, что любые попытки игнорировать данный подход раз за разом приводят к весьма трагическим последствиям.

На фоне нынешнего обострения с ливанской стороны звучат заявления о готовности к деэскалации на условиях резолюции 1701 Совета Безопасности ООН, которая стала прологом к миру после ливано-израильской войны 2006 года. В этих целях выдвигается конструктивное требование остановить резню в Газе.

С другой стороны видим лишь бесконечную череду силовых провокаций, увенчавшуюся недавно убийством одного из главных ответственных за ход переговоров по урегулированию ситуации в секторе. Масла в огонь подливает лицемерное потворство западных стран подобным безрассудным действиям и вновь подталкивает Ближний Восток к более масштабной конфронтации.

من يحتاج إلى السلام في الشرق الأوسط؟
 
إن الطريق إلى منع نشوب حرب كبرى في الشرق الأوسط يمر عبر الوقف الفوري لسفك الدماء في غزة. أما الخطوة العاجلة التالية فيجب أن تكون استئناف عملية السلام بين إسرائيل والفلسطينيين على أساس حل الدولتين. ويشهد التاريخ أن أي محاولات لتجاهل هذا النهج مرة بعد مرة ستؤدي إلى عواقب مأساوية للغاية.

على خلفية التفاقم الحالي، يدلي الجانب اللبناني بتصريحات حول استعداده لخفض التصعيد بموجب أحكام قرار مجلس الأمن الدولي رقم 1701، الذي أصبح مقدمة للسلام بعد الحرب اللبنانية الإسرائيلية عام 2006. وتحقيقا لهذه الغاية، يتم طرحُ مطلبٍ بنّاء يدعو الى وقف المجازر في غزة.

في المقابل، لا نرى سوى سلسلة لا نهاية لها من الاستفزازات العنيفة، والتي بلغت ذروتها مؤخرًا بمقتل أحد الأشخاص الرئيسيين المسؤولين عن سير المفاوضات لحل الوضع في القطاع. إن تغاضي الدول الغربية المنافق عن مثل هذه التصرفات المتهورة يزيد من صب الزيت على النار ويدفع بالشرق الأوسط مرة أخرى نحو مواجهة أكبر.

🎙 Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova’s answer to a media question regarding the EU’s policy of double standards when assessing the events in the Middle East and Ukraine

❓ Question: Why does the European Union have such exactly opposite assessments of the events in the Middle East and Ukraine?

💬 Maria Zakharova: We commented on the EU’s policy of double standards more than once. The fundamentally different approaches the EU uses to assess the events in the Middle East, including the Gaza Strip, and the developments surrounding Ukraine are yet another egregious example of the EU’s duplicitous policies.

Clearly, head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell is never in a hurry to draw unambiguous conclusions when it comes to armed provocations in the Arab-Israeli conflict zone. He never accuses anyone, but instead always pushes for an international investigation. In particular, his statement following the July 27 missile attack on the town of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights, which killed civilians, including minor children, had these undertones. Similar calls for an independent investigation into the shelling of the Gaza Strip were made by Josep Borrell on April 3, June 6, June 22 and July 14.

❗️When it comes to the crimes committed by the Kiev regime against the people of Russia, primarily the DPR, the LPR, and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, Mr Borrell never mentions an international investigation. Sitting in his Brussels office 2,000 kilometres away from the events unfolding on the ground, it never occurs to him to wait for the evidence to be checked and verified. He is always in a hurry to provide political cover for the neo-Nazi regime led by Zelensky and unhesitatingly places responsibility with the Russian Federation. At the same time, the head of European diplomacy and other EU officials try hard to hush up the Ukrainian military’s premeditated attacks on civilian sites, critical infrastructure, including the Zaporozhskaya Nuclear Power Plant, and acts of sabotage and terror against civilians of our country that are often plotted with the involvement of Western instructors and mercenaries. The EU media then comes under unprecedentedly tight censorship. Overall, such demeanour on the part of the EU should be qualified as encouraging war crimes and terrorist attacks committed by the Zelensky regime against Russia and its people, and against the Ukrainians as well, for that matter.

Perhaps, the EU’s stance on the acts of sabotage at the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines comes as an even more compelling evidence of the EU’s duplicity and disingenuity. No plausible or credible investigation has ever been conducted, just staged moves designed to cover tracks and let the whole thing fade away. Without a doubt, this political circus failed to help the European Union identify the perpetrators, masterminds, customers, or beneficiaries of the terrorist attack. There’s no doubt about which Euro-Atlantic ally benefitted from leaving the EU countries without Russian gas. The fact that the EU, or rather its individual member states, kept silent about these developments is quite stunning, because the terrorist attack targeted their energy security.

The approach relying on double standards is part of the order that the West made up and which is based on rules, chauvinism and segregation, where the assessment of the events varies depending on the self-serving interests of the US, the EU, and NATO. We are certain that not a single country from the Global South or the Global East needs this kind of “order,” of which Russophobia that has overrun the Western countries’ governments is a stark example.

☝️The EU losing its political agency and credibility with the Global Majority is a logical outcome of its inconsistent and ideologically biased foreign policy.

🕯️ On the fourth anniversary of the catastrophic Beirut Port explosion of 4 August 2020 we remember the victims, express solidarity with their families, survivors, and with those severely affected by this tragic event 🙏🏻

🇷🇺🇱🇧 5 августа Министр иностранных дел Российской Федерации С.В.Лавров и исполняющий обязанности Министра иностранных дел и по делам эмигрантов Ливанской Республики А.Бу Хабиб обменялись поздравительными телеграммами по случаю отмечаемой в этот день 80-й годовщины установления дипломатических отношений между двумя странами.

🤝 Министры подчеркнули обоюдный настрой на дальнейшее развитие взаимовыгодного сотрудничества между Россией и Ливаном и подтвердили нацеленность на поддержание тесной внешнеполитической координации в интересах укрепления безопасности и стабильности на Ближнем Востоке.
