According to the SBU and OGP materials, the Russian general who ordered to blow up the Kakhovskaya HPP was suspected
Investigators of the Security Service and employees of the Prosecutor General's Office collected evidence on Colonel-General Oleg Makarevich, commander of the "Dnieper" troop group of the Russian Armed Forces.
According to the case file, this military commander gave the order to blow up the dam of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station on the night of June 5-6, 2023.
As a result of this crime, critical infrastructure facilities were completely destroyed, resulting in the death of at least 35 people, the flooding of 46 settlements in the Kherson region and the flooding of 20 settlements in the Mykolaiv region.
Moreover, water supply to the Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions, as well as temporarily occupied Crimea, was partially cut off due to the explosion of the dam. Among other things, this created a threat to the maintenance of the Zaporizhzhya NPP, namely, it disrupted the operation of the cooling system of the nuclear plant.
According to the SBU materials, Oleh Makarevych was notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 28 part 2 of Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder, committed by a group of persons according to a prior conspiracy).
He faces life imprisonment.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. The Security Service of Ukraine is making every effort to identify and bring to justice all those involved in crimes against Ukraine.
