A female presented to the ER with severe abdominal pain and was unstable. She was diagnosed with ovarian torsion and needed treatment however she refused to consent. Her husband wanted her to be treated and signed consent. What is the appropriate action?
This is a controversial question, but the best answer is still B. I will explain why:

Signing for DAMA is out of the question because this is a medical emergency and her life may be in danger.

In cases of medical emergency, you have to treat the patient but this doesnโ€™t mean you do not atleast attempt to gain consent, in this case they tried to gain consent from the patient but she refused, the next step is to gain consent from the husband. This is a valid approach according to the Ethics and professionalism handbook for residents approved by the Saudi Commision:

โ€œin the case of a real emergency, her opinion should be listened to; if she refuses to sign the informed consent form, her husband or another near relative may sign. In these cases, an Emergency Medicine doctor can sign the form to protect a patientโ€™s life.โ€ Page 61 -Ethics Handbook by the Saudi commission for health specialties

Bottomline: B is more correct than A
