Happy World Habitat Day, 5 October, 2026. 2026 Theme: "Adequate Housing for All". I think the theme is pretty self-explanatory because as we know that access to adequate housing is a fundamental element of human dignity, safety and well-being, yet the world continues to face a severe housing crisis.
More than 3 billion people lack access to adequate housing, more than 1.1 billion people live in informal settlements and hundreds of millions experience homelessness. Achieving adequate housing requires inclusive approaches that respond to the needs of lower-income households, people experiencing homelessness, communities affected by crises and disasters, and those at risk of displacement.

For your information, in 1985, the United Nations designated the first Monday of October of every year as World Habitat Day to reflect on the state of our habitats and on the basic right of all to adequate shelter. The Day is also intended to remind the world that we all have the power and responsibility to shape the future of our cities and towns; it is our collective responsibility for the future of the human habitat.

The song "L'amour est bleu" ("Love is Blue") by Vicky Leandros. Composed by André Popp and written by Pierre Cour, it was released in early 1967. It represented Luxembourg in the Eurovision Song Contest 1967 held in Vienna, Austria, on 8 April, 1967, placing fourth.
In this video, Vicky sings this song in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, in 1968. This is one of the most famous songs of the 1960s but mostly through cover versions by many other musicians, most notably by Paul Mauriat in instrumental version.
In addition to the French language original version, she recorded the song in English as "Colours of Love" with lyrics by Bryan Blackburn, in German as "Blau wie das Meer" with lyrics by Klaus Munro, in Italian as "L'amore è blu", and in Dutch as "Liefde is zacht", that were released in nineteen countries.
Until now this is one of very few non-winning Eurovision entries ever to become a worldwide hit.

Congratulations Brazil! Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has won the 2026 Brazil Presidential Election! Lula has been re-elected as President of the Federative Republic of Brazil for a historic 4th term! Lula's victory is a victory for Brazil, Latin America, and the world!
With 51.79 percent of the vote, the left-wing Lula has defeated the far-right Flávio Bolsonaro—the son of Lula's predecessor, Jair Bolsonaro—with 48.21 percent of the vote in the second round. This 80 years old young man who is from the working class has won the election!
Never, since the return of democracy in Brazil in the 1980s, has the first round runner-up won the second round, this is indeed historic. Bolsonaro rejected the results of this 2026 election, just as his father also did in 2022 election. Whatever he says, Lula has won!

Lula's victory is also a victory for the entire planet, for the Amazon is the largest and most biodiverse tropical rainforest on the planet, and during Lula's presidency Amazon deforestation has fallen to the lowest level over a decade. Surely, Lula will continue to save the Amazon!
I am personally very happy with this news. Where almost all of Latin America has shifted to the right in recent years, Brazil remains on the left. Brazil said no to fascism! But really, the struggle doesn't end here. Always remember: People united will never be defeated!
