Ashvatthama’s Sacrifice of Himself to His Higher Self

“Drona's son [Ashvatthama], armed with bow, and with fingers cased in fences made of iguana skins, himself offered up his own self as a victim unto Mahadeva [Rudra]. Bows were the fuel, and sharp shafts were the ladles, and his own soul possessed of great might was the libation, O Bharata, in that act of sacrifice. The valiant and wrathful son of Drona then, with propitiating mantras, offered up his own soul as the victim. Having with fierce rites adored Rudra of fierce deeds, Ashvatthama with joined hands, said these words unto that high-souled god.
Ashvatthama said, "Sprung from Angirasa's line, I am about to pour my soul, O god, as a libation on this fire! Accept, O lord, this victim! In this hour of distress, O Soul of the universe, I offer up my own self as the sacrificial victim, from devotion to thee and with heart concentrated in meditation! All creatures are in thee and thou art in all creatures! Assemblage of all high attributes occur in thee! O lord, O thou art the refuge of all creatures. I wait as a libation for thee, since I am unable to vanquish my foes. Accept me, O god." Having said these words, Drona's son, ascending that sacrificial altar on which a fire blazed brightly, offered himself up as the victim and entered that blazing fire.
Beholding him stand immovable and with uplifted hands and as an offering up to himself, the divine Mahadeva appeared in person […] the divine Mahadeva entered Ashvatthama's body after giving him an excellent and polished sword. Filled by that divine being, Drona's son blazed up with energy. In consequence of that energy derived from godhead, he became all-powerful in battle.” - Mahabharata, Sauptika Parva, 8

On the subject of Druids

Some thoughts on the Druids and their ethnic counterparts across Europe, their ordination in our time-if possible, and some friendly advice going forward.

Math fab Mathonwy, the Celtic Savitr-Prajapati and Goewin, Goddess of Night: Part 1 of 2

https://taliesinsmap.blogspot.com/2021/09/math-fab-mathonwy-celtic-savitr.html?m=1

Why does the mysterious wizard Math have to keep his feet in the lap of a virgin at all times, except during war?

Line by line, Welsh Math corresponds to the Vedic solar deity Savitr, who, as the golden germ of light resting in the darkness before sunrise, rests with his maiden Ratri who is Night.

As we will see in the second part, this deity is an important creator god and has important analogs in deities found at the beginning of the cosmos in both later Hindu myth and Orphic theogony.

Sculptures depicting Odin, Balder and Thor. Description below provided by the National Museum in Stockholm, where these sculptures reside.

Three Ancient Norse Gods

"Karl XIV Johan ordered three ancient Norse gods in a colossal format by sculptor Bengt Erland Fogelberg, working in Rome. Odin arrived in Stockholm in 1831, with Thor and Balder delivered in 1845, one year after the king died. When Nationalmuseum opened in 1866 all three stood in the entrance hall.

During the 19th century, ancient Norse motifs were used to strengthen the national self-image after the loss of Finland in 1809. People wanted to safeguard the right to self-rule, and found an idealized image in ancient times, characterized by freedom. The French marshal Jean Baptiste Bernadotte was compared to Odin when he was elected crown prince."

Math fab Mathonwy, the Celtic Savitar-Prajapati, and Goewin, Goddess of Night: Part 2

https://taliesinsmap.blogspot.com/2021/09/math-fab-mathonwy-celtic-savitr_26.html?m=1

Math resting on Goewin, who is Savitar resting on Ratri (Night), is the “Prajapati” of the cycle, and sets the world in motion when he rises as the sun.

As such, he is the Celtic reflection of light-bringing deities found at the beginning of the creative cycle in later Hindu myth, Orphic theogony, and the Norse Eddas:
Vishnu resting on Sesa; Phanes resting on Nyx; Dellingr, third husband of Nott.

"The code of behavior followed by Homeric males is typical of warrior societies. A man is called ‘good’ (agathos) when he exhibits bravery and skill in fighting and athletic contests. He is ‘bad’ (kakos) if he is a coward or useless in battle. A ‘good man’ should honour the Gods, keep promises and oaths, and be loyal to friends and fellow warriors. He should exhibit self-control, be hospitable, and respect women and elders. It is proper to show pity even towards captured warriors and to refrain from defiling corpses of the enemy. These gentler qualities, although they are desirable, are not required; a man may be merciless and cruel and still be agathos."

"I feel awe of the gods, I love, I revere, I venerate them, and in short have precisely the same feelings towards them as one would have towards kind masters or teachers or fathers or guardians or any beings of that sort."- To The Cynic Heracleios by Julian Flavius

Emperor Julian Flavius, known as Julian the Apostate by Christians, was an Emperor who tried to restore the Pagan cults of ancient Rome amidst the Christian rule of his family, the Constantinians. He favored the metaphysical doctrines of Plato and his students, including the practice of theurgy and magic. He was well acquainted with some of the last magicians and philosophers, who helped him understand the deep inner-truths of the Roman tradition. He was a part of many Mystery Religions such as the Cult of Mithras which certainly inspired his panegyric: Hymn to King Helios. He was mortally injured during a campaign on the Sassanid Empire and like Socrates, he philosophized about the Gods until his death.

Neit/Neto: A Celtic Vishnu?

https://taliesinsmap.blogspot.com/2021/11/neitneto-celtic-vishnu.html?m=1

Is there a Celtic “Vishnu,” the high god of many Hindus today? What was his role and importance for the Celts?

This is one of the more mysterious questions of Celtic mythology as no obvious candidate has been established among interpreters.

However, though the evidence is fragmentary, one god known in both Iberia and Ireland may be the Celtic Vishnu we seek: the uncle of the Dagda, a powerful and light-giving “war god” named Neit/Neto.

Avoid perplexity; seek simplicity. Has a man sinned? He bears his own sin. Has aught befallen you? It is well; for all that befalls you is an ordained part in the weaving of the destiny of all things from the beginning. In sum, life is short. Make the best of the present in reason and in justice. Be sober in your relaxation.

The Celtic Creation Myth: Branwen, Matholwch, and Efnysien, or: Earth, Sky, and Rudra: Part 1 of 4

https://taliesinsmap.blogspot.com/2021/11/the-celtic-creation-myth-branwen_21.html?m=1

This is the culmination of all my researches and the most important thing I’ve written.

Everything falls into place.

Here is the Celtic Creation Myth, something that has never been properly understood or identified before.

Do not accept counterfeit new age fictions and do not listen to those who say the Celts have no Creation Myth.

All the answers you seek will be in this series.

Other questions will be answered as well, such as:

Is Cronus a parallel of Odinn?

Is Ymir the Norse “Father Sky?”

What can we deduce about Indo-European theology from this?

And many more.

Odainsakr, Tagzig Olmo Lung Ring and Elysium

https://telegra.ph/Odainsakr-Tagzig-Olmo-Lung-Ring-and-Elysium-11-20-2

The legends in this article are some of the more obscure parts of polytheism, aside from Elysium. These places have amazing connections. They also give a glimpse of how in the early days of Indo-European Religion there were strong similarities in the afterlife. Only when these cultures branched out and developed their views with the growth of their cultures did some of these similarities fade away.

The Celtic Creation Myth: Branwen, Matholwch, and Efnysien, or: Earth, Sky, and Rudra: Part 2 of 4

https://taliesinsmap.blogspot.com/2021/11/the-celtic-creation-myth-branwen_22.html?m=1

Efnysien, the Welsh Cronus and primordial Rudra on the scene of Creation, is both guardian and liberator.

Though readers have often misinterpreted him as a psychopath, Efnysien’s actions actually encode a precise theological pattern: setting the Creation in motion, avenging the progenitive outburst he himself has caused, and then snuffing out his own passions to open up a path of transcendence, a path of return to primordial wholeness.

From Hermeticism to Neoplatonism to Aristotelianism, understanding Cronus as Rudra harmonizes much of the esoteric thought of the West with that of the East.

As the philosophers repeatedly say, Cronus, the “Intellectual-Principle” or “Cosmic Mind,” is “our King.”

This king of the philosophers is of course none other and could be none other than Odinn, Fionn, Efnysien, Rudra.

The Religion of the Warband

The Warband or Männerbund was a staple of ancient European war. Their religion, while not well documented, was unique to them and their lives. The system of unmarried and landless youths would live in the wild, hunt and ambush their enemies. They would act outside the law and be known as outlaws and wolves. Even in some cultures acting as a sort of police, ironically. This tradition evolved throughout the centuries, even in relatively modern times.
