In this long-awaited volume, on which he worked for twenty years, Wolfson describes the body of doctrine known as the Kalam. Kalam, an Arabic term meaning “speech” and hence “discussion,” was applied to early attempts in Islam to adduce philosophic proofs for religious beliefs. It later came to designate a system of religious philosophy which reached its highest point in the eleventh century; the masters of Kalam, known as Mutakallimum, were in many respects the Muslim equivalent of the Christian Church Fathers. Wolfson studies the Kalam systematically, unfolding its philosophic origins and implications and observing its repercussions in other religions. He scrutinizes the texts of Muslim writers for their treatment of such crucial problems as the attributes of God, the Creation, causality, predestination and free will. In the process he shows how the teachings of the Koran were constantly interwoven with ideas from Greek and Oriental philosophies, Judaism, and Christianity as Islamic thought developed.

As lucidly written and intellectually stimulating as all the author’s earlier books, this volume is a fitting capstone to a notable career.

این کتاب حکایت فشرده و گویا از یکی از داد و ستدهای تاریخی در عرصه اندیشه کلامی است. ولفسن که خود فیلسوفی یهودی است، با بیان روشن و مستند نشان می دهد که اندیشمندان یهودی هم در نظام سازی های کلامی و هم در تنظیم و قاعده مند کردن آموزه های خود از روش و چار چوب های مفهومی متکلمان و فیلسوفان متقدم اسلامی بهره های فراوان گرفتند. به طور کلی وجه عقلانی آیین یهود در تماس با کلام عقلانی اسلامی، بویژه گفتمان معتزلی، و در زمینه آن اندیشه کلامی، شکوفا و بارور گردید.

Wolfson believed that ideas are contagious, but that for beliefs to catch on from one tradition to another the recipients must be predisposed, susceptible. Thus he is concerned here not so much with the influence of Islamic ideas as with Jewish elaboration, adaptation, qualification, and criticism of them. To this end he examines passages reflecting Kalam views by a wide variety of Jewish thinkers, including Isaac Israeli, Judah Halevi, Abraham ibn Ezra, and Maimonides. As always in Wolfson's work, two aspects are apparent: the special dimensions of Jewish thought as well as its relation to other traditions. And as always his prose is both graceful and precise.

شیعه تفسیر درست تعالیم قرآن و سیره نبوی را در پیروی از اهل بیت – علیهم السلام – می بیند. این گرایش از نخستین سالهای صدر اسلام پدید آمد و در پیروی مطلق از اهل بیت پیامبر تجلی و استمرار یافت.

این کتاب در واقع حاصل گفتگو ها و نامه هایی است که میان پروفسور هانری کربن، محقق بزرگ فرانسوی و نیز متفکر شهیر اسلامی ، علامه طباطبایی در سال 1338 صورت گرفته و با توضیحات و تحقیقات دو تن از شاگردان برجسته علامه، آقایان : علی احمدی میانجی و سید هادی خسروشاهی پربار تر شده است.

داستان شکل گیری شیعه، مشکلات و موانعی که بر سر راه آن ایجاد شد، تهمت های ناروا به شیعه، چگونگی مرجعیت اهل بیت – علیهم السلام - ، پی ریزی علوم توسط آنان، طرز تفکر فلسفی در بیانات آنان، پاسخ به شبهه ها و سئوالات گوناگون از جمله مباحثی است که در این کتاب به طور مستند و منطقی بحث شده است.

ادامه مذاکرات این دو متفکر بزرگ در سال 1340 انجام شد که این بخش نیز برای اولین بار در سال 1370 به زیور طبع آراسته شد.
مباحثات این دو متفکر در سه فصل کلی «مکتب تشیع»، «بیانات ائمه شیعه و اندیشه فلسفی» و «رسالت تشیع در دنیای امروز» تنظیم و تدوین شده است. https://t.me/bayeganitabligh/429
