Aptoide Games, a gaming-focused third-party app store, is now directly available in the Google Play Store in the US

The move follows years of legal pressure from Epic Games and Google’s recent changes allowing qualifying third-party app stores onto the US Play Store.

Apple gears up for Apple Intelligence launch in China

Strings spotted in the latest iOS 27 beta 5 shows that Apple is ready to support Apple Intelligence in China. Here's how they would be doing it:

"Apple Intelligence is built for privacy. To comply with laws and regulations, Apple Intelligence in China uses a safety mechanism provided by a local company. Your requests are processed on-device and not sent to Apple or the safety mechanism provider. As required by law, Apple will collect anonymized safety results and share them in aggregate. The safety mechanism will download and update automatically."

Now this so-called β€œSafety mechanism” is basically a euphemism for the censorship engine. It’s a filter for unauthorized content in China and a way to rapidly update models with changes provided by the Chinese government.

Pixel Gboard features unlocked

Just found this solid repo: Gboard-patches

It’s a Morphe source that lets you patch official Gboard to unlock a bunch of Pixel-exclusive / gated features plus some really practical upgrades:

- AI Writing Tools (all languages)
- Advanced Voice Typing + auto punctuation
- Grammar Checker & Smart Compose / Inline Suggestions
- Clipboard enhancements (retention, limits, previews, Web Clipboard portal)
- OCR / Scan Text
- Long-press editing shortcuts, custom symbols, key shape options, developer flags, etc.
- Plus some nice Taiwan-focused Zhuyin tweaks

You can install the patched version alongside stock Gboard (Package Rename) or replace it.

Note: for some of the AI tools to actually work you need to import the libs from the bundled Gboard APK into the normal one.

Pretty clean and useful if you want those Pixel Gboard goodies on any device.

Your first look at the Windows Surface Smartphone that never launched

Before Microsoft acquired Nokia, the company was heavily rumoured to be working on its own in-house Windows Phone device that was expected to ship in 2014 under the Surface moniker. Unfortunately, such a device never saw the light of day, but newly published images of a mysterious prototype might have just given us our first & only look at what Microsoft was exploring internally.

- Codenamed Raven (likely)
- Unknown Qualcomm Processor
- 720p HD Display
- Headphone Jack
- Micro-USB
- Power button on top

It has dedicated hardware keys for navigation, which are also coated in the same silver color as the chassis.

The build of Windows Phone that it’s running appears to be from September 2013, and is from an internal development branch building towards what eventually became Windows Phone 8.1.

Development on this device was likely paused once Microsoft acquired Nokia in 2014.

Honestly, this phone looks so gorgeous 😍

Here's a better and complete look at the Microsoft Windows Surface Smartphone

The screen says "goodbye" just like how it's on the Nokia Lumia running Windows 8 or Windows 10 mobile.

The power button is visible at the top while the large speakers and headphone jack are visible at the bottom alongside the Micro-USB port.

πŸ’΅ Microsoft has reportedly raised Windows license prices for some OEMs by 7% to 10%, according to a Taiwanese report. While license fees usually rise each year, the increase this time appears to be much larger than the modest adjustments manufacturers have seen in the past. One industry executive said the jump became especially noticeable in July.

Because Windows licenses are typically built into the cost of new PCs, the higher fees are likely being passed on to consumers. The report says some laptop retail prices have already reflected the change, though the exact impact will vary by brand and device. Since Windows licensing costs differ by customer, the final price increase is not uniform across the market.

The timing is especially difficult for the PC industry, which is already dealing with a shortage of computer memory. Analysts expect that shortage to continue pushing up component and device prices, making Microsoft’s move feel even more painful for buyers and manufacturers alike. Microsoft declined to comment on the report.

Same battery capacity is there between Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro, yet the 11 Pro is advertised to get 30+ hr battery life while the 10 Pro is advertised for 24+ hr.

Looks like this battery efficiency comes from the Google Tensor G6 SoC since the previously leaked slides showed that Google was focusing on making Tensor G6 efficient by lowering the performance lol
