Restoration begins at UNESCO-listed Chehel Sotoun after blast damage.

The 17th-century Safavid pavilion in Isfahan suffered damage from a US-Israeli attack on a nearby building within its protected buffer zone. The blast shattered windows, destroyed brick latticework, and collapsed part of a staff room roof.

Director Mostafa Hadipour says restoration follows "minimum intervention" principlesβ€”replacing only damaged elements with compatible materials. During the work, conservators discovered a sealed historical niche and traces of ancient painted decoration beneath plaster.

The site, part of the UNESCO-listed Persian Garden ensemble, will be preserved with its authenticity intact.
