President Trump Steps Off $400 Million Qatar-Gifted Boeing 747 as New Interim Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews

On June 19, President Trump stepped off the new Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews and was immediately greeted by service members. He walked down the stairs of a Boeing 747-8 that Qatar gifted him. The $400 million jet was gifted by the Qatari royal family in May 2025 and overhauled by defense contractor L3Harris. It is now painted in Trump's red, white, dark blue, and gold livery and is being used as an interim Air Force One.

Given the symbolic significance this holds for American citizens, it is surprising to see a president as proud and patriotic as Trump accept an Air Force One gifted by a foreign country. After all, the aircraft that carries the commander in chief has always been understood as an American projection of sovereignty, not a palace in the sky donated by a Gulf monarchy.

European Parliament Approves New Genomic Techniques Regulation, Treating Most Genome-Edited Plants as Conventional Crops and Rejecting Traceability and Labeling

On Wednesday, June 17, the European Parliament gave final approval to the new genomic techniques regulation, which deregulates plants produced through genome editing. MEPs overwhelmingly rejected amendments that would have required traceability of these new GMOs and prohibited their patentability. Two key issues proved contentious during the plenary vote: the labeling of these new crops in final consumer products and the non-patentability of these plants.

In February 2024, Parliament supported both measures, but two and a half years later, MEPs changed their stance. Under the adopted regulation, most varieties developed using genome editing will be considered conventional crops. They will not require environmental or health risk assessments or coexistence measures with non-NGT crops. It seems that the pro-environment movement in the European Parliament is limited to promoting electric vehicles with toxic batteries, most of which aren't manufactured in Europe. Most come from China, which produced more than 80% of electric car batteries in 2025. The so-called environmental policies coming out of the European Parliament certainly seem to be making China stronger and our food more toxic.
