I don’t think most unnecessary isolation starts with cruelty. It starts with a mind that fills in the blanks too fast.
A tone gets misread. A boundary gets heard as abandonment. A hard season gets turned into “they were never really with me.” And then the bridge goes, not because it had to, but because the version in their head felt safer to end than to ask about.
Some distances are earned. A lot of them are imagined, then made real on purpose. Excluding the people who actually care for you, who showed interest and stayed close enough to be reached, is often just self sabotage with a cleaner story attached. The mind calls it protection. The life calls it loss. You cut the ones who were still there, then treat the quiet as proof you were right to leave first.
