• यूनेस्को ने 1966 में साक्षरता के महत्व और अधिक प्रयासों की जरूरत को समझाते हुए इसे 'अंतर्राष्ट्रीय साक्षरता दिवस' घोषित किया।
• पहला अंतर्राष्ट्रीय साक्षरता दिवस 1967 में मनाया गया था।
• इस दिवस के लिए वर्ष 2025 की थीम ‘डिजिटल युग में साक्षरता को बढ़ावा देना’ है।
• 2011 की जनगणना के अनुसार, भारत की साक्षरता दर 74.04% है, जो पिछले दशक से 9.2% अधिक है।
• यूनेस्को के अनुसार, भारत को सार्वभौमिक साक्षरता प्राप्त करने में 50 साल और लगेंगे।
• ‘उल्लास- नव भारत साक्षरता कार्यक्रम’ को राष्ट्रीय शिक्षा नीति 2020 के अनुसार 2022-27 के लिए स्वीकृत किया गया।
