🪬 Bitcoin 2025: which expert forecasts held up — and which quietly failed

December 31 calls for a reality check

2025 was widely framed as Bitcoin’s breakout year. It didn’t end that way. The $150,000 target never came. After peaking at $126,080, BTC rolled over and closed the year in the red.

But the real story goes beyond price

Throughout the year, experts made strong calls on ETFs, institutional adoption, miner strategy, and how the market would evolve. Some predictions held. Others unraveled along the way.

✅We revisited the key expert forecasts for 2025 — and separated what actually played out from what didn’t.
✅Then we looked ahead and compiled expert expectations for 2026, a year already defined by wider ranges and bigger uncertainty.

🎄Happy New Year from Vnish

As 2025 comes to a close, one thing is clear. Not every forecast came true. Not every plan worked out 🧐
But the industry kept moving forward — thanks to the people building it every day 💪

We want to thank our partners, clients, and everyone who keeps Bitcoin mining running through uncertainty, volatility, and constant change. Your work, resilience, and curiosity are what turn bold predictions into real progress 💛

May 2026 bring clearer signals, stronger collaboration, and better outcomes than any forecast could promise.
We’re grateful to be building this future together 🎉

🔥 AI models analyzed Bitcoin’s future — The results deserve attention

Artificial intelligence is no longer experimental in crypto markets. In the past year, funds and analysts increasingly relied on AI to interpret macro signals, on-chain data, and regulatory trends.

Recently, several leading AI systems were independently tasked with forecasting Bitcoin’s 2026 outlook — including price ranges, growth drivers, and key risks.
Instead of single targets, the models focused on scenarios and base cases, reflecting how institutions actually assess markets.

The findings highlight where consensus is forming — and where uncertainty remains

👉 We break down the most important takeaways in our new YouTube video:
🇺🇸US power grids are bringing emergency plants back — prices are reacting

In December, Reuters published a striking investigation into rising stress across US power markets

Electricity demand from AI data centers has climbed so fast that US grids are keeping emergency “peaker” plants online instead of retiring them.

In PJM, the country’s largest power market, ~60% of fossil plants scheduled to shut down stayed alive this year.
11 out of 13 were peakers.

At the same time, peak power payments jumped more than 800% year over year.

Peaker plants supply just ~3% of US electricity, but control nearly 19% of total capacity when the grid gets tight. Once they set the price, electricity stops being cheap — fast.

This raises uncomfortable questions:
• What does it mean when backup power becomes baseline supply?
• And why does this matter for miners operating inside US grids right now?

👉 We break this down in the new Mining Insights newsletter:
🎄Post-Christmas stress test: Bitcoin absorbs geopolitical shock and holds structure

Bitcoin entered 2026 under pressure — and handled it well
After Christmas, BTC pushed into the $90K zone, then paused. Not because demand faded. But because global headlines hit the market while traditional finance was offline.

The reaction was telling. A short pullback, then stabilization. Since Christmas, Bitcoin is still up ~5%. Price remains above the 21-day moving average — the level that defines short-term trend.

Now look at gold. Gold peaked near $4,550 per ounce on Dec 26 and dropped almost 6% shortly after. Bitcoin moved the other way. Historically, Bitcoin’s strongest upside phases started after gold topped. That’s how capital rotation usually begins — quietly, then fast.

🙉 Bitcoin is moving up — While a structural decision looms

Bitcoin entered 2026 with renewed strength. Prices recovered. Risk assets moved higher. Yet one unresolved policy decision continues to shape the backdrop.

On January 15, MSCI will decide whether companies with 50% or more of their assets in digital assets should be excluded from its global equity indices.

This is not a symbolic move. MSCI benchmarks underpin more than $18.3 trillion in assets. Any exclusion would force passive funds to rebalance — mechanically, not selectively.

The proposal has been known since October. It coincided with a $12,000 intraday drop in Bitcoin and weighed on market sentiment throughout Q4. Estimates of potential forced selling range from $10 to $15 billion over time.

The coming decision will test how institutional rules interact with Bitcoin’s evolving demand structure

📉Bitcoin resumes growth as market activity hits multi-year lows

Bitcoin has climbed back to yearly highs after weeks of consolidation, moving in sync with stocks and gold as capital flows return to hard assets. The shift signals renewed strength — but the backdrop is far from simple.

Spot market volume has dropped to its lowest level since late 2023, raising concerns about thin liquidity behind the move. At the same time, on-chain data shows continued absorption of supply, with long-term holders steadily increasing their positions.

The result is a market where price can move quickly — but not always predictably

🎥We break down what’s driving Bitcoin right now and what this phase means in our new video:
🔥 The year has just begun — and Vnish is already on the move

2026 is only getting started, and we’re stepping into it the same way we ended last year: staying close to the industry, our partners, and the places where real decisions are made.

One of our key stops this February is Consensus Hong Kong — a global meeting point for crypto, infrastructure, and long-term strategy.

📍 February 10–12, 2026 | Hong Kong

Consensus isn’t about announcements or surface-level trends.
It’s where capital meets technology, where market signals turn into action, and where the direction of the next cycle becomes clearer.

For Vnish, being there is part of a bigger plan
This year, our international presence only grows stronger — more events, more face-to-face conversations, more alignment with the people building and operating at scale.

We’re coming to meet partners, miners, and infrastructure teams who focus on efficiency, reliability, and results that hold up over time. The kind of discussions that don’t need hype — just clarity and experience.

2026 has just opened. And our global run is already gaining speed

If Consensus Hong Kong is on your calendar — let’s meet and talk in person ⚡️
💥Bitcoin ETFs surge 600% in two days, signaling a deeper market shift

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs opened the year with over $1B in inflows in just two trading sessions. If sustained, analysts estimate annual demand could approach $150B — far exceeding last year’s totals.

What makes this move notable is not speed, but structure. ETF demand increasingly reflects long-term capital, gradually absorbing circulating supply rather than chasing short-term volatility. Major asset managers are expanding their ETF exposure, reinforcing this trend.

👉 We break down what this shift means for Bitcoin’s market mechanics — and why it matters now:
⚡ Bitcoin mining’s 2026 problem: too much power, too little signal

In 2025 the Bitcoin network added 34% more hashrate, reaching about 1,048 EH/s. At the same time, mining revenue fell below $40 per PH — even after Bitcoin hit new highs.

This mismatch is now driving decisions that define the industry

Miners are selling sites, moving capital into AI and HPC, and competing for megawatts instead of machines. Energy projects are being financed by mining before they ever touch the grid. More than 56% of the network now runs on renewables.

These are not isolated trends. They point to a new economic model for mining

• Who benefits from it? • Who gets priced out? • And what does it mean for 2026?

We connect the dots in Vnish Mining Insights. Full analysis on LinkedIn:
🤘MSCI backs Bitcoin treasuries. Index risk is off the table

MSCI has officially kept Bitcoin treasury companies inside its global stock indexes. That includes firms where more than 50% of assets sit in Bitcoin.
So yes — Strategy and other BTC-heavy companies stay in MSCI ACWI and Emerging Markets.

We warned about this risk in our earlier post. Back then, when MSCI first floated the idea of exclusion, Bitcoin crashed $12,000 in a single day. Markets understood the threat immediately.

Why? Because this was not about accounting — it was about forced selling. If MSCI had reclassified these companies as “fund-like”, index trackers would have had to dump them.
For Strategy alone, analysts estimated up to $2.8 billion in passive outflows.
Across the sector, that would have meant billions in mechanical selling pressure on BTC-linked equities — and on Bitcoin itself. MSCI just killed that scenario.

Institutional demand just got more stable. Structural selling risk is gone. That makes every mined Bitcoin more competitive. To stay ahead in this kind of market, efficiency is everything 👉 vnish.com
🐳 BTC whales dump longs as $135K Bitcoin target returns

Large Bitcoin holders have begun aggressively closing long exposure after a year of declining market leverage. In past cycles, this exact shift appeared right before major upside.

On-chain data shows whale wallets have shed over 200,000 BTC over the last year, while smaller investors increased their share — a sign that Bitcoin is entering a more mature and structurally supported phase. Analysts also point to a classic “spring” pattern that has historically preceded sharp rallies.

With Bitcoin consolidating near key levels, the same setup that once led to a 50% surge in just weeks is starting to reappear — and projections above $130,000 are back on the table.

👉 We break down what this really means for Bitcoin in our new YouTube video:
🚨 Bitcoin difficulty dips — but the network is already gearing up for another squeeze

Bitcoin’s mining difficulty fell to 146.4 trillion on January 8, marking the first downward adjustment of 2026. On paper, that looks like relief. In reality, the network is already signaling the opposite.

Block production is currently running at 9.88 minutes, faster than the protocol target. That means active hashrate remains high — and the protocol is expected to respond with another increase on January 22, lifting difficulty to around 148.2 trillion.

This comes after a brutal Q4 for miners. In November, hashprice dropped below $35 per PH/s per day, well under the widely accepted $40 breakeven level. That forced parts of the network to shut down. But the machines that stayed online are now pushing difficulty back up.

👉We break down what this means for miners right now — and what the next difficulty cycle is likely to do — in our latest longread on LinkedIn:
🫥 Bitcoin–gold correlation drops to zero for the first time in years

Bitcoin’s 52-week correlation with gold has fallen to 0 — a level not seen since mid-2022 — and experts say it could soon turn negative.

This matters because in past market cycles, such a divergence has often marked the point where Bitcoin starts outperforming gold.

Historical data shows that in four previous instances, Bitcoin delivered an average 56% rally within weeks after this correlation flipped.

The only failure happened during extreme market stress caused by mining bans and forced liquidations — conditions that are not present in the current cycle.

👉We just released a new video explaining what this rare signal means for Bitcoin and why this phase matters for miners:
🔥 Vnish keeps moving — and the global expo run continues

For us, mining isn’t something you do from behind a screen. It’s built through real conversations, hard numbers, and people who actually run hardware in the field. That’s why Vnish keeps showing up where the industry meets in person — and our next stop is Blockchain Forum 2026.

In mid-April, the crypto and mining world will gather for two intense days of networking, tech, and deal-making. We’ll be there to meet partners, exchange ideas with industry leaders, and sit down with miners who are focused on performance, scale, and long-term efficiency.

📰 US Senate freezes crypto’s biggest rulebook

The Senate Banking Committee was supposed to vote today, January 15, on the CLARITY Act
Instead, the markup was postponed at the last minute — and that delay is now shaping both prices and strategy across crypto.

This week’s draft of the bill had already triggered heavy positioning
One leaked version would place XRP, Solana and Dogecoin in the same legal category as Bitcoin — as “digital commodities,” not securities — as long as they sit inside a regulated ETF by Jan 1, 2026.

But while altcoins barely moved, Bitcoin jumped from under $92,000 to nearly $97,700

👉Why Bitcoin keeps pulling ahead when Washington gets messy — is the core of our Mining Insights newsletter:
🚨 Bitcoin in 2026 may follow the 2022 bear market script
BTC is up more than 20% from recent lows. Sounds bullish. But there is a catch. Bitcoin is still trading below its 365-day moving average.
Last time this happened, price dropped 19–27%, then bounced hard, then failed again. In 2022, BTC rallied 47%, hit the yearly average — and the bear market continued.

Right now, the key level is $101,000. Fail to reclaim it, and history starts to rhyme. At the same time, exchange inflows jumped to 39,000 BTC per day, the highest level in months. That usually means one thing: sellers are getting ready.

🤔For miners, this is not about price predictions. It’s about margins. In a bear market, inefficient hashpower gets priced out first.
🐋 Whales Are Selling Less. ETFs Are Buying More

On-chain data shows a clear shift. Large Bitcoin holders have sharply reduced net selling compared to late December. One of the main sources of market pressure is quietly fading.

At the same time, spot Bitcoin ETFs just pulled in $1.42B in one week — the strongest inflow since early October.

Midweek demand was especially aggressive: about $754M on Tuesday and $844M on Wednesday. Even a $395M outflow on Friday couldn’t erase that momentum. Institutional buyers are back.

Put the two together and the picture is simple. ETF demand is absorbing supply while whales pause distribution. Available Bitcoin is tightening.

This doesn’t guarantee straight-line price growth. Past ETF spikes often led to short rallies. What matters now is persistence. Several strong weeks in a row would change the market structure.

For miners, this is not a “relax” signal. It’s a competition signal🔥
