Speaking at General Assembly Meeting #72 on Monday, January 16, Shabnam Palesa Mohamed (🇿🇦) provided an update on a pioneer court case in South Africa.
Shabnam is an award-winning activist, journalist (The People’s Voice and Trialsite News), mediation lawyer, and arts education advocate from South Africa.
On a country level, she is the founder-CEO of Transformative Health Justice, an NPC focused on safe, affordable and effective health care, as well as SA VAERS – which is an alternative and independent vaccine adverse effects reporting system, aimed at giving victims a voice and enhancing transparency and accountability.
On a continental level, she is Executive Director of Children’s Health Defense Africa, launched the African Coalition to Stop the Treaty (ACST), and co-founded the African Health Independence Solidarity Alliance (AHISA). She is also the Africa lead for Trialsite News.
Internationally, she is a Director of EbMCsquared CiC and serves on the steering committee of World Council for Health, a health advocacy non-profit organization, for the people, by the people. Speaking at General Assembly Meeting #72 on Monday, January 16, Francesca Havens (🇦🇺) gave a presentation titled From Humour to Compassion to (Self-)Help: Old Bodies, Old Minds, Novel Biohazards, detailing three key elements of healing from a family, friend, community and clinical perspective.
Francesca is a nutritional therapist and clinical psychoneuroimmunologist, with a background in modern languages and social anthropology. Psychoneuroimmunology is a cutting-edge discipline that adds evolutionary biology and psychology, as well as the scientific underpinnings of mind-body interactions, to current understandings of nutrition.
She has travelled and lived in many cultures and has several important themes in her work, among which are: evidence-based nutrition; the globalisation of the 'edible food-like substances' industry (Michael Pollan's excellent term); the subterfuge used to popularise such substances and compensate their shortcomings by the food/chemical/agriculture/pharma industries; and the resulting obliteration of food culture and understanding of healthy foods.
Francesca is now dedicated to helping disseminate health science with integrity with the World Council for Health, and excited about the huge opportunities that it represents for self-empowerment and taking responsibility—something that is reflected in her private nutrition practice.

Governments around the world continue to demonize the cheap, safe, effective, and Nobel prize-winning drug, ivermectin.
Last year, the Malaysian Ministry of Health commissioned a task force of experts (DETF-Ivermectin) to investigate ivermectin as a treatment for Covid-19. In December 2022, DETF-Ivermectin submitted its report, suggesting that ,“Ivermectin should not be included as a standard treatment for Covid-19 in Malaysia.” This conclusion was reached despite the reference of four systematic reviews, three of which support the use of ivermectin, and despite significant accompanying scientific evidence of its effectiveness.
DETF-Ivermectin’s report is essentially based on the fallacious argument that the administration of doses up to 100-fold higher than those approved for use in humans would be required to achieve the plasma concentrations necessary for the antiviral efficacy detected in vitro. This is a crude interpretation of an in vitro study on monkey cells and is contradicted by a body of studies.
The World Council for Health would like to remind public health agencies and health ministries that ivermectin is by now, well-established as an essential, safe, and effective treatment in the fight against Covid-19.
Not to endorse or permit its use is to deprive people of medical choice at best, and life-saving treatment at worst. We exhort governments, including the Malaysian Ministry of Health, to allow the highest quality evidence, not the poorest, to inform their policies and thus establish ivermectin within Covid-19 treatment protocols.
