Akash Network founder Greg Osuri announced that the project is ending support for its own blockchain built on the Cosmos SDK and will be moving to a new network.

Osuri called Solana (#SOL) “a strong contender for Akash’s new home,” but said that no final decision has been made yet.

Altcoins Missed Out on $800 Billion in Market Capitalization

▪️The market capitalization of altcoins is roughly $800 billion lower than it could have been if retail investor demand had remained at previous levels, Bloomberg reports, citing research from 10x Research.

▪️According to Markus Thielen, head of 10x Research, altcoins failed to attract enough new capital in this market cycle. “The capitalization would be about $800 billion higher if investors — particularly in South Korea — hadn’t spread their funds across crypto stocks and similar assets,” he noted.

▪️South Korea has traditionally remained one of the largest markets for altcoins. While globally over 50% of trading volume is concentrated in Bitcoin and Ethereum, on Korean exchanges the share of altcoins has exceeded 80%.

▪️According to 10x Research, as of November 2024, the average daily trading volume on Korean crypto exchanges reached $9.4 billion, surpassing the turnover of the country’s stock market (around $7 billion on the Kospi index). However, since then, activity in altcoins has declined significantly.

Analysts believe this is not a temporary downturn but a structural shift. Investors are increasingly favoring Bitcoin, stocks of companies holding crypto reserves, ETFs, and other funds.
