We bow in respect to those martyrs who were killed mercilessly in Jallianwala Bagh on this day. We will never forget their courage and sacrifice for the country and its countrymen. Their valour will inspire Indians for the years to come.
The year was 1919, when on April 13th villagers gathered in the bagh in large numbers to celebrate the important sikh festival of Baisakhi and peacefully protest against the deportation of two national leaders.
This is when, in response to the protest, the Acting Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer ordered armed troops of the British Indian Army to fire their rifles into an unarmed crowd of civilians gathered in Jaillianwala Bagh, Punjab killing atleast 400 people and leaving about 1000 people injured.
