Nasdaq Analysis: Can Tech Now Ignore the Bond Market?

Nasdaq up 1.18%, pushing toward record highs on reports that US-Iran negotiations are in their final stages. Semiconductors are leading β€” Nvidia rallying ahead of earnings, Intel up 6%. The market is treating a potential deal as the catalyst for a regime shift in risk appetite.

The contradiction is difficult to reconcile. The 10-year hit a 16-month high. The 30-year reached its highest since 2007. Fed hike odds have risen to 50% by December β€” a complete reversal from the two cuts priced before the war. Yet equities are rallying as though the inflation problem has already been solved.
Trump acknowledged the tension directly, telling Fortune that rate cuts may need to wait until the war concludes. Incoming Chair Warsh inherits a market pricing peak earnings and rising rates simultaneously.

The Nasdaq is trading on two narratives β€” peace optimism and AI momentum are overpowering the bond market's warning.

Oil Price Analysis: WTI Now Trades Below $100

WTI fell more than 5% below $100 on reports that US-Iran negotiations are in their final stages. Satellite data confirmed three supertankers crossing the Strait of Hormuz β€” the first tangible evidence of loosening traffic since the blockade began in March.

The Persian Gulf typically supplies approximately 20 million barrels per day. That flow has been effectively suspended for nearly three months, pushing WTI from $60 pre-war to a peak of $120. A deal that restores even partial transit would represent a fundamental shift in the supply picture.
However, inventories continue to tighten. US crude stocks fell for the fourth consecutive week, and the Strategic Petroleum Reserve has been depleted by 10 million barrels β€” a 6.6% annual decline. The physical supply damage from the blockade does not reverse overnight, even if a deal is signed.

EUR/USD Analysis: Stagflation Crisis Now Deepens in Europe

EUR/USD is breaking below 1.1600 support and trading well below the 200-day SMA. Former support at 1.1650 may now be resistance, with the next meaningful demand zone near 1.1400.

May flash PMIs confirmed the eurozone's deterioration is accelerating. Composite PMI fell to 47.5 β€” a 31-month low. Services collapsed to 46.4, the weakest in over five years, as war-driven living costs crush consumer demand. Even manufacturing is fading β€” German factory activity slipped back into contraction at 49.9.

S&P Global warned inflation could approach 4% in coming months, with input cost inflation at a three-and-a-half-year high. The ECB is staring at contraction and rising prices simultaneously. June hike expectations persist, but the data is making that decision increasingly difficult to justify.

The eurozone's stagflation problem is deepening. Growth contracting, inflation accelerating, and the ECB has no good option.

GBP/USD Analysis: UK PMI Are Now Plunging Into Contraction

GBP/USD is trading near the 200-day SMA in the middle of the 1.3200–1.3600 range. Neither buyers nor sellers have established conviction.

UK composite PMI collapsed to 48.5 in May from 52.6, the first contraction in over a year and far below the 51.6 consensus. The economy that produced strong Q1 GDP and a favorable CPI print at 2.8% has been overtaken by the war's second-round effects β€” falling output, surging costs, supply shortages, and accelerating job cuts.

MUFG's Cook said: in a different world without the Hormuz closure, the UK would be positioned for rate cuts on the back of moderating inflation. Instead, the BoE is expected to hike at least twice this year while the economy contracts.

Markets price an 86% chance of no change at the June 18 BoE meeting. Chancellor Reeves' cost-of-living package signals the government recognizes the pressure, but fiscal intervention cannot substitute for monetary clarity

Reflecting on my short bonds play: I am all out, and took a decent gain off the table.

However - this is a a frustrating reminder/reality of my strategy (macro trend following + trailing stops).

Sometimes a trade starts off fantastic. The price takes off in my direction, the macro catalyst is there and strong -- then, it fizzles out.

It can feel a little bit frustrating to finally catch the runner, only to see it lose steam. But...

It's also what happens most of the time when trying to catch the BIG moves.

Patience is a critical part of trading the way I do. Most of the time my trades result in small losses, small gains, or just a bit better than breakeven.

Then? One day? Price kicks off running and doesn't look back! Patience!

Oil Analysis: Why Duration Now Matters More Than The Peak

WTI at $96.53, down from last week's $112 highs but still 60% above pre-war levels. Price remains well above the $85–88 zone that represented pre-war equilibrium. The 200-day SMA is rising but far below, confirming the structural shift higher.

The duration of elevation matters more than the peak. A brief spike to $120 that reverses can be absorbed. Three months above $85 is fundamentally different. Energy costs have embedded into supply chains, transportation, rents, and wage negotiations. That transmission does not reverse when oil declines.

Even if a deal is signed today, disinflation lags. The 2022 oil shock took 12–18 months to fully unwind from core CPI. The damage is cumulative and already priced into the real economy.

Oil at these levels is no longer just a commodity story. It is the reason central banks cannot cut, yields are at multi-decade highs, and growth is contracting globally.

Gold Analysis: Now Approaching a Critical Support Zone.

Gold at $4,494, and I've had this level circled for weeks. The $4,200–$4,400 support zone is approaching β€” a range that previously acted as resistance, was broken, retested, and held violent selloffs on multiple occasions. The 200-day SMA is now converging with this zone. If there was a level to pay attention to, this is it.

The trade is conditional. Gold's recovery requires a simultaneous relief in the dollar and yields β€” both of which remain elevated. If DXY retreats from 99 and the 10-year pulls back from 4.60% precisely as price reaches this structural support, the confluence creates a defensible long entry with defined risk.

The other side is equally straightforward. If the dollar and yields maintain their dominance when gold reaches this zone, support fails. And failed support on a level this well-defined tends to produce violent continuation lower β€” potentially toward $4,000 or below.

Oil Analysis: 10% Weekly Drop Now Tests Pre-War Support Zone

WTI is trading near a five-week low after losing 10% last week. Price continues to compress within the $85–$117 range that has defined this war. A break below $85 it signals the market believes the conflict is over.

The market is forward-pricing a resolution. Despite no signed deal, oil is drifting lower because the consensus is forming that this war has to end eventually. The US and Iran are reportedly negotiating a two-month ceasefire extension that would ease Washington's blockade while Tehran reopens the Strait.

The contradiction: US Central Command is simultaneously striking missile sites and suspected mine-laying vessels in southern Iran.

The $85 level is the line. As long as it holds, oil remains a war-premium trade. A clean break below confirms the repricing into a post-conflict market β€” and the downstream effects on inflation, yields, and central bank policy shift accordingly.

AUD/USD Analysis: CPI Now Sets Direction This Week

AUD/USD is bouncing off the 50-day SMA, which is acting as dynamic support.

Wednesday's April CPI is in key focus. Headline inflation is expected to ease to 4.4% from 4.6%, largely on the back of the government's petrol tax relief. But the trimmed mean β€” the RBA's preferred core measure β€” is forecast to edge higher to 3.4% from 3.3%. NAB warns the Q2 quarterly core outcome could reach 3.9–4.0%, above the RBA's 3.8% projection.

The range of estimates is unusually wide at 4.1% to 4.8%, reflecting significant uncertainty around how the energy cost shock is transmitting through the broader economy. A CPI print above 4.5% would likely shift those probabilities materially higher, while a reading below 4.2% could effectively close the door on near-term tightening.

Markets have scaled June hike odds to just 10% after the soft jobs report, with August at 50-50. Wednesday's number will likely settle that debate.
