Russia banned from the Olympics
Russia was banned from the Olympics and world championships in a range of sports on December 9 after the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) ruled to punish it for manipulating laboratory data, the TASS news agency reported.
WADA's executive committee took the decision after it concluded that Moscow had tampered with laboratory data by planting fake evidence and deleting files linked to positive doping tests that could have helped identify drug cheats.

Department for Skill Development and Training
AP government has created a new department for Skill Development and Training to achieve the objective
and goal of Skill Development Entrepreneurship and Innovation with coordinated efforts and convergence of services with other departments. This will help in preparing necessary human resources to meet the requirement of various industries so that it would become possible to provide 75 per cent employment to local candidates.
This is on the lines of the department of Skill Development Entrepreneurship which was created by the Government of India.

Mathematician Dr Neena Gupta - the youngest Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar awardee
Dr. Neena Gupta has been awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize 2019, in the field of Mathematical Sciences.
This prize, one of the most prestigious awards in the country for research in Science, honours scientists for significant and cumulative contribution to their area of research.
Dr Gupta, the youngest person in Mathematical Sciences to receive this award till date, has been recognised for her contributions to affine algebraic geometry, especially in proposing a solution to the Zariski Cancellation Problem.

It has taken 26 years for the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) to reach the 50th mission.
By the 50th mission, the PSLV would have launched 319 small satellites and around 63 satellites of Indian origin.
The first PSLV mission — the PSLV-D1 — lifted off on September 20, 1993.
On its 50th mission, the PSLV will carry India’s RISAT-2BR1 and nine smaller foreign satellites.
The 49 missions so far have been marred by only two failures.
PSLV was also important in that it was used in India’s first lunar mission and the interplanetary mission to Mars.

Climate change and technology rather than wealth and income are the modern-day wedges that are increasingly dividing the haves from the have-nots, said the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in its 2019 Human Development Report.
According to the Human Development Report, the climate crisis is already hitting the poorest hardest, while technological advances such as machine learning and artificial intelligence can leave behind entire groups of people, even countries.
