#IELTS #writing #topic #essay

A few days ago, I got a question about academical essays, and decided to share my response with the channel so that everyone could learn.

For writing, it's the best if you keep 3 things in mind.

🔸 Introduction
🔸 Body Paragraph(s)
🔸 Conclusion

🔺 At first, start with a good lead. Could be a question, a quote, anything interesting. Then, give some background information about your topic, and at the end of the intro, state your topic (your thesis statement)

🔺 Then, start the body or bodies with their own unique topic sentences and continue the paragraph(s) with supporting ideas.

🔺 With conclusion, first, restate your thesis statement (topic), and then leave some of your own comments.

This is an academical essay.

⚜ Topic Sentence ⚜

🔸 The topic sentence contains the main point in a very short sense without giving any details. It is not the same as a thesis statement since it's more exclusive.

🔹 If the paragraph talks about the problems of something, the topic sentence should contain all the problems in a tightly-packaged format.

🔸 The topic sentence is written at the beginning of a body paragraph and later is supported by supporting ideas.

🔹 Example:

Thesis statement: Cheating can happen because of X, Y and Z.

First topic sentence: One of the reasons that cheating happens is X.
