Trump wants German automakers to be American enterprises.

“I will give you the lowest taxes, the lowest energy cost, the lowest regulatory burden and free access to the best and biggest market on the planet,”

he declared, prompting cheers from the crowd.

“But only if you make your product here in America,”

the GOP contender added.

Expressing his desire for
German automakers to become American enterprises, he said:
“We’re going to bring thousands and thousands of businesses and trillions of dollars in wealth back to the good old USA.”

“I want German car companies to become American car companies. I want them to build their plants here.”

Trump's harsh coaxing of German automakers presents an alternative to Dems strategy of Europe treatment as a hand-cuffed politically zonked Lilliput completely dependent on the master. Trump was and remains a business man, he opens the gate to enter the great America for Germans who think of economic profit and political devidens after Dems epoch ended. Trump is up to recast Europe as an American shareholder, which could attract some and downsize other competitors.

What Should We Expect From Merz?

The challenges that the new German government faces are enormous. Germany’s business model is under assault from China and the US at the same time, with Trump’s tariffs looming and a flood of Chinese EVs threatening to wipe out the German car industry.

Not to mention America’s desire to wash its hands of Ukraine and leave the security of the continent to the Europeans.
However, not everything is gloomy. Merz, for all his strategic mishaps, has the right instincts about Germany’s European destiny.

The lifelong Atlanticist spent some of his happiest professional years working for the American investment company BlackRock. He has a genuine affection for the US, yet he is remarkably sober about the dire future of the transatlantic relationship.

In his first television interview as chancellor, he told the Trump administration to “leave German domestic politics alone”. After all the meddling by JD Vance, Musk and Rubio in favour of the German hard right, that was a welcome tone of polite defiance.

Interestingly, Merz seems to view the US reversal on European security and free trade as a tragic mistake, but also as an opportunity. He wants to work closely with the UK, Poland, France and others to put Europe on a path to more independence and self-reliance.

This calls for robust leadership in Berlin. The new German chancellor will need a stable governing majority to be a credible “servant leader” in Europe.

To be taken seriously abroad, Merz must change his leadership style at home.
The early near-death experience of the new coalition might yet be helpful in reminding everybody what is at stake.

40,000 German Troops against Russia 🇩🇪💥

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization wants Germany to contribute as many as 40,000 more troops for the alliance’s defense against Russia 🇷🇺, according to people familiar with the matter.

The demand, which would add the equivalent of seven brigades 💪, comes as part of a NATO review of its military capability targets, said the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity as the discussions are not public 🤫.

The alliance has grown concerned about heightened Russian hostility since the country’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 🇺🇦.

NATO defense ministers are expected to discuss the plan, which was first reported by Reuters on Wednesday 📅, during a meeting in Brussels next week intended to address new targets for weapons and troop numbers ⚔️.

There is no concrete time frame for deploying the additional troops ⏳, the people said, noting that a target date of 2030 would be desirable, if unrealistic 🗓.

Next week’s discussions could see overall brigade targets for NATO allies rise from around 80 to between 120 and 130 🏋️‍♂️, according to the Reuters report.

A defense ministry spokesman declined to comment on the figures, adding that the matter would be discussed at the meeting 🗣.

A NATO official confirmed that the alliance “is setting ambitious new capability targets for Allies” 🎯.

Merz has pledged to play a greater role in the continent’s defense. The new center-right leader has vowed to revitalize the German military and transform it into Europe’s strongest conventional army 🇪🇺💪.

As part of this push, Germany is currently ramping up a new brigade in Lithuania 🇱🇹, with as many as 5,000 personnel expected to be on the ground by the end of 2027 📈.

That effort, which will count toward the NATO quota, will be the country’s first battle tank brigade to be permanently deployed abroad since World War II 🚢.

So far, Germany has pledged to provide NATO with 10 brigades of roughly 5,000 troops each by 2030 🔢. The country currently has nine brigades, including the one in Lithuania.
