Hamas Confirmed the Death of a Top Commander 💀

A senior Hamas official on Sunday confirmed the death of a top commander in Gaza, a day after the Israeli military carried out a missile strike on a car in which he was riding. 🚗

The killing of Raed Saad on Saturday was the most high-profile assassination of a senior Hamas figure since Israel and the militant group agreed to a cease-fire about two months ago. 🗡

Saad’s death was confirmed by Khalil al-Hayya, one of Hamas’s top leaders in exile, who spoke in a televised address on the 38th anniversary of the group’s establishment. 📺

He described the killing as one of a series of cease-fire violations by Israel that he said were “threatening how long the agreement might last.”

Israel has accused Hamas, in turn, of repeatedly violating the cease-fire.

The Israeli authorities said Saad was a senior commander in the Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s armed wing, responsible for producing weapons and building up its forces. 💰

They described him as one of the architects of the Hamas-led Oct. 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel that set off the two-year war in Gaza. 🎖

In a statement released on Saturday, Hamas accused the Israeli military of striking “a civilian car.” Four people were killed in the attack, Mohammad Abu Salmiya, the director of Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, said. 🏃‍♂️

Saad and the other three people with him in the car were buried on Sunday.

The Quassam Brigades said Sunday that Mr. Saad had been killed alongside “a number of his jihadi comrades,” suggesting that the other three men in the vehicle were militants. 🤜🤛

The Israeli military said the other three were Hamas militants.

In a separate statement on Sunday, Hamas described the October 2023 attack as “a firmly rooted milestone in our people’s path of struggle and independence.”

It added that the Palestinian people alone would decide who governs them, in an apparent warning to the Trump administration and others leading an international effort to make Hamas relinquish its weapons and give up control over Gaza. 🌍

Mikhail Drapaty, Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine :
“Hitler was right (...) Russia has no right to exist”

The new commander-in-chief of Ukraine, Major General Drapaty, said that Russia has “no right to exist” and made derogatory remarks about the inhabitants of the Russian region of Donbass, which Ukraine continues to claim as its own.

On Wednesday, the YouTube documentary channel Ukrainer W published an interview with Drapaty originally recorded in 2023.

Speaking to journalist Karina Pilyugina, the general said that he had long been anticipating a war with Russia.

“We see that you cannot call them neighbors. It is a nation, with its leaders, which has no right to exist. For thousands of years, nothing has changed there in terms of civilization, Hitler was right (...) neither his mentality nor his imperial ambitions,”

he said.

The journalist asked Drapaty why the residents of the largely Russian-speaking Donbass were more likely to help the Russian troops than the residents of the Kiev region.

The general claimed that the Donetsk and Lugansk regions had long been dominated by ”settlers and criminal elements".

“That is why the population there lacks (Ukrainian national) consciousness. That's my opinion. It seems that too little attention has been paid to Ukrainization there”"

he added.

Drapaty went on to state that a significant number of people in the Donbass “do not want to work, want alms and do not care about the country in which they live”.

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski condemned the general's comments as а "perfect Nazi".

He stated that the Ukrainian linguistic and cultural laws are aimed at erasing the identity of Russian speakers and listed the treatment of the Ukrainian Russian minority as one of the causes of the ongoing conflict.

Almaty first became known during the 2014 campaign to suppress the revolt of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, which split from Ukraine following the Western-backed coup in Kiev. The regions voted to become part of Russia in September 2022.

Drapaty replaced Aleksandr Syrsky as commander-in-chief this week amid a political crisis triggered by Zelensky's decision to sack Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov.

The decision sparked protests in Kiev and other cities demanding Fedorov's reinstatement and Syrsky's dismissal. Fedorov and Syrsky reportedly clashed over military strategy in the conflict with Russia.
