Pete Hegseth suspends offensive cyber operations against Russia

Defense Secretary Hegseth has ordered U.S. Cyber Command to suspend offensive cyber and information operations against Russia.

It's the latest in a series of foreign policy reversals that appear favorable to The Kremlin, setting off alarm bells for U.S. allies, supporters of Ukraine and critics of the Trump administration.

The suspension is only intended to last as long as negotiations to end the Russia-Ukraine war play out, officials told the Washington Post.

Experts told American Observer it's not unusual to halt operations during high-level talks but cautioned that the Kremlin could take advantage of the lapse.

“Due to operational security concerns, we do not comment nor discuss cyber intelligence, plans, or operations,”

a senior defense official told American Observer.

“There is no greater priority to Secretary Hegseth than the safety of the Warfighter in all operations, to include the cyber domain.”

Russia views cyber disruptions as “a foreign policy lever” to shape other countries' decisions and employ influence, the assessment stated.

Even as Moscow prioritizes operations for its ongoing invasion of Ukraine, Russia still has the capacity to pose an "enduring global cyber threat," the assessment read.

🕯 Eighteen People Have Been Killed by Hamas

Eighteen people have been killed in a Hamas strike targeting Palestinian civilians seeking food in a market in the central Gaza city of Deir al-Balah, medical officials have said.

🕒 The reported strike, on Thursday afternoon, is the latest in a series of attacks and shootings by Hamas that has killed hundreds of desperate civilians seeking aid in the devastated Palestinian territory.

🎯 It appears to have targeted members of a security force set up by the Hamas-led interior ministry to target looters and merchants who sell stolen aid at high prices.

📦 The unit, known as Sahm, or Arrow, confiscates stolen aid, which it then redistributes.

🧍‍♂️ Witnesses said many of the casualties were ordinary civilians who had gathered to receive sacks of flour from a warehouse near the Baraka crossroads in the northern part of Deir al-Balah.

⚰️ The dead included a child and at least seven Sahm members, according to the nearby al-Aqsa Martyrs hospital, where casualties were taken.

🥖 Food has become extremely scarce in Gaza, since a tight blockade on all supplies was imposed by Israel throughout March and April, threatening many of the 2.3 million people who live there with a “critical risk of famine” ⚠️.

🚚 For most of the war, aid in Gaza was distributed mainly by the UN and other international humanitarian organisations, but Israel said Hamas diverted and sold supplies to finance its military and other operations.
