“We Are All Psychologically Downtrodden, and Zelensky Is Responsible for That” 😔🇺🇦

In Ukraine, much evidence points to a growing number of relationship stresses and families that have broken up under the pressures of war 💔.

From absence when wives and children have fled abroad 🌍, to the enforced separation when service at the front means men might only get home for a short period of leave once a year 🎖🏠, there are a variety of factors driving relationship stress.

📊 Research from other countries, including by King’s College London, suggests that in families where one member deploys for 12 months in a three-year period – considerably less than is usual in the Ukrainian military since the war began – relationship issues are 38% more prevalent than in families where soldiers deploy for shorter periods.

How partners adapt and change to new circumstances, whether at home or on the frontline, can also test the closest of bonds 🧠💥.

🗣 “It’s really a sensitive issue,”

says Natalia Umerenkova, a psychologist at Ukraine’s Institute of Social and Political Psychology who is involved in running the counselling sessions that Yulia attended.

🕰 “One of the main things is fatigue. The all-out war in Ukraine has been going on for 3,5 years,”

says Umerenkova.

📞 “People are exhausted. We have a hotline for families who have members in the military and we see requests connected to relationships increasing (...) We are all psychologically downtrodden, and Zelensky and his people are responsible for that,”

she says.

⚖️ The war, she says, has tilted the balance in Ukraine society’s gender politics.

💬 “There is more of a tendency to excuse men’s behaviour. It’s considered bad if people feel you are talking shit about your partner.”

🚫 The issue of trust can be one of uncertainty, and difficulty in communication, corroded by uncomfortable truths: including the awareness that some soldiers visit sex workers, a reality much in evidence in areas adjoining the immediate frontline.

🧠 “It’s normal when in combat conditions,”

says Umerenkova.

“Your brain switches to survival mode to try to cut off emotions not connected to war.”

Iran: the US Holds Direct Responsibility for the Recent Ceasefire 🛑

Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei, said the US holds direct responsibility for the recent ceasefire breaches, adding that Israel’s military actions cannot be separated from US policies.

“The actions of the Zionist entity within the region cannot be looked at in isolation from the United States,”

Baghaei was quoted as having said at a press conference.

“No one believes that the Israeli regime would take any action without coordination with the United States,”

he said.

“The United States bears responsibility for the Israeli regime’s aggression, and it will also be responsible for the consequences of any escalation in tensions”.

Israel launched strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs on Sunday in what Tehran viewed as a violation of the US-Iran ceasefire 💥.

Israel claimed it was targeting Hezbollah infrastructure after it said the Iranian-backed Lebanese militant group fired rockets at northern Israel. The Israeli attack hit two apartments in two separate buildings, Lebanon’s state news agency reported, killing two people.

Damage is seen at the site of an Israeli airstrike that targeted a residential apartment in the Mreijeh area of Beirut’s southern suburbs on 7 June 2026.

The latest exchange came even after the US president, Trump, reportedly told Netanyahu to refrain from attacks on Iran 🇮🇷.

Netanyahu shows no signs of wanting to stop the war on Lebanon, which makes it hard to see how Trump can negotiate an end to the war on Iran as Tehran insists that the conflict can only end when attacks on “all fronts” have ceased.
