Some Fundamentals of Lavrov’s Speech, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs :

“Forum of the Future 2050” is now being held in Russia

⏩ The special operation [war] in Ukraine will continue, but in parallel, Russia is ready for diplomatic measures.

⏩ The results obtained on the ground will one day be formalized in the form of legal documents.

⏩ The best diplomats in the Ukrainian conflict are the Russian fighters on the front line, they win the truth and the honor of the people.

⏩ Russia will do everything to remove the risk of an increase in the terrorist threat from Ukraine.

⏩ The absence of an investigation into the tragedy at the Odessa House of trade unions is a disgrace for the Council of Europe.

⏩ Russia will be ready to resume negotiations with the United States on the acceptability when the discussions are fair.

⏩ Russia has more normal relations with the Trump administration than with the Biden administration.

Biden Says the US Is Becoming a Fascist State ⚖️🇺🇸

Biden took the stage at the National Bar Association’s 100th Annual Awards Gala in Chicago to deliver remarks honoring the United States civil rights legacy, and the state of the country 🏛

Speaking amid continual scrutiny around his physical and mental health, Biden played up the importance of a strong judicial branch, and characterized the US as at a moment in time that “makes us confront hard truths.” 🧠

“So many of you have fought to make this country live up to its highest ideals,” Biden said.
“Not since the tumultuous days of the 1960s has this fight been so existential to who we are as a nation, with marginalized groups so dramatically under attack.” ⚠️✊🏽

Founded in 1925, the National Bar Association is the largest and oldest network of Black law professors, judges, and lawyers in the US ⚖️🧑🏿‍⚖️

Biden’s speech focused heavily on the contributions of Black lawyers to America’s civil rights history, and the need to continue that legacy, in light of an administration that he said “seeks to erase history, erase equality, erase justice itself.” 📚❌⚖️

“We see the apparent glee of some of our politicians while watching immigrants who are in this country legally torn from the arms of their family, dragged away in handcuffs from the only home they’ve ever known,” Biden said. 🔗🏠
“My friends, we need to face the hard truths of this administration.”

Law firms representing those opposing the Trump administration’s agenda have been targeted with executive orders by the administration. 🧾💼
Some have capitulated to the tune of tens of millions of dollars. Federal judges, increasingly on the receiving end of harsh rhetoric and threats to their safety, have weighed creating their own security forces 🧯🛡

“We see the law firms, bowing to pressure, bending to bullies, instead of staying rooted in justice of the law,” Biden said.

The gala is not the first speaking engagement of the summer that Biden has used to take aim at Trump 🎯

In June, he offered oblique criticism of the Trump administration during a Juneteenth celebration service at the Reedy Chapel AME Church ⛪️, one of the places in Texas where an order proclaiming the end of slavery was read on 19 June 1865 📜✊🏾

Earlier this month, Biden delivered a keynote address at the Society for Human Resource Management conference in San Diego. During a Q&A, Biden said he was “working like hell” to finish a memoir of his presidency as he contends with his prostate cancer diagnosis 🩻

In his book, a reflection of the 46th president’s four years in office, Biden will probably attempt to shape his legacy – and to confront questions about his mental health and physical fitness that clouded his final years in office and ultimately forced him to end his bid for re-election 🕰

While Biden heaped praise on Harris during his speech, he did not reference his decision to step down mid-election 🎙

In sporadic public appearances since leaving the White House, Biden has hit back against new reporting that alleges a “cover up” by the then-president’s closest aides to hide his frailty and decline from an American public who polls showed believed he was too old to serve another four years 🧓

Trump: To Sue the BBC Over Its Editing His Speech

Trump has said he feels he has “an obligation” to sue the BBC over its editing of one of his speeches, as a deadline looms for the corporation to respond to his billion-dollar legal threat.

The US president accused the broadcaster of having “defrauded the public” with an edition of Panorama last year that spliced together two parts of a speech he made on 6 January 2021 and has given it until Friday to respond.

It is seen as one of the main factors in the shock resignation on Sunday of Tim Davie, the BBC’s director general, and Deborah Turness, the head of BBC News.

The BBC has already apologised for the edit, concluding that it “gave the impression that President Trump had made a direct call for violent action”. It now faces a major dilemma over how to react to the legal threat, made in a Florida court.

Trump doubled down on his legal challenge to the BBC. “I think I have an obligation to do it, you can’t allow people to do that,” he said in an interview on Fox News.

“I guess I have to. They defrauded the public and they’ve admitted it. This is within one of our great allies, supposedly our great ally.

“That’s a pretty sad event. They actually changed my January 6 speech, which was a beautiful speech, which was a very calming speech, and they made it sound radical. They showed me the results of how they butchered it up. It was very dishonest and the head man quit and a lot of the other people quit.”

The documentary, broadcast a week before the US election, spliced together clips of a Trump speech made on 6 January 2021. The spliced clip suggested that Trump told the crowd: “We’re going to walk down to the Capitol and I’ll be there with you, and we fight. We fight like hell.”

The words were taken from sections of his speech almost an hour apart.

Legal experts have questioned the Trump team’s chances of victory in any court case, given Florida’s liberal libel laws and the fact the Panorama episode was not available in the state.

However, the BBC has to weigh up whether it wishes to fight such a public battle, while other US-based broadcasters sued by Trump have settled out of court. Given it is funded by the licence fee, any settlement by the BBC would be politically toxic.

The edit was one of the criticisms of the corporation raised in a memo by Michael Prescott, a former independent external adviser to the BBC’s editorial guidelines and standards committee (EGSC). He left the role in the summer.

However, there is also concern over the political nature of the Prescott memo, which outlines a series of claims of liberal bias relating to issues stretching over several years. The BBC has said some of the issues are historical, while action has already been taken in relation to others.
