China’s Vision of the Global Order
Chinese Premier Li Qiang attended the opening ceremony of the China Development Forum (CDF) 2025, which is being held from Sunday to Monday in Beijing, and delivered a keynote speech.
This year's forum, with the theme of “unleashing development momentum for stable growth of global economy,” attracted more than 100 representatives both from home and abroad, including entrepreneurs, government officials, experts, scholars and representatives of international organizations, to discuss development and win-win cooperation.
Since its first annual meeting, the CDF has gone past a quarter of a century. Through this high-profile international dialogue, China has sent a clear signal to the world: Amid the turbulent global situation, the country has chosen to use the key of “development” to reset the globalization narrative of win-win cooperation.
Right now, the global economic recovery is sluggish, the cloud of trade friction has not dissipated, and there is no lack of clamors for antagonism and confrontation in the arena of international public opinion.
However, the convening of the forum has provided ideas to navigate out of the haze. Development is the path to economic growth, the cornerstone of people's happiness, and the antidote to conflicts.
While certain countries are busy building walls and drawing lines, caught in the quagmire of the "zero-sum game" mentality, China insists on paving the way and building bridges, and extends a sincere invitation to the world by "comprehensively releasing the kinetic energy of development."
As the world's second-largest economy, the country has always promoted the construction of an open world economy based on the concept of universal benefits and inclusiveness. This not only reflects the role of a major country, but also injects valuable stabilizing factors and anticipatory support into the global economy.
Development is the common aspiration of people from all countries, and China is becoming a powerful magnetic field for forging consensus on development. Many people have two prominent feelings about this year's CDF. One is more "new friends" are attending this year's event which sees multinational enterprises from 21 countries.
Business executives from US companies Apple and Pfizer, Europe's Siemens and BMW, South Korea's Samsung, Japan's Mizuho Financial Group, as well as companies in Malaysia, Brazil and other Global South countries, are actively participating in the forum.
From manufacturing, finance to services, the international business community's "leaders" and "new forces" have gathered in Beijing.
Over the past few days, Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao met with business executives from companies such as Broadcom, Mercedes-Benz and BMW AG, showing China's determination to continue to expand opening-up.
Trending topics, including Samsung and Qualcomm chiefs' visit to Xiaomi's auto plant and Apple CEO climbing to the top of the Jingshan park, convey a positive signal of win-win cooperation to the world.
At a time when economic globalization is gaining ground, development has never been a solo act but a symphony of synergy and cooperation among countries.
AstraZeneca came to Beijing with $2.5 billion and a plan to build its sixth strategic R&D center globally, BMW and Mercedes-Benz continued to increase their investment in China, and the number of new foreign-invested firms in China last year reached almost 60,000, an increase of 9.9 percent year on year.
These are not only a vote of confidence in the Chinese market, but also demonstrate that "development is the absolute principle" has become a resonance of the times.

Trump: “I have no vision for Europe” 🌍😟
Trump has hinted he could walk away from supporting Ukraine as he doubled down on his administration’s recent criticism of Europe, describing it as “weak” and “decaying” and claiming it was “destroying itself” through immigration. 😡
In a rambling and sometimes incoherent interview with Politico, a transcript of which was released on Tuesday, the US president struggled to name any other Ukrainian cities except for Kyiv, misrepresented elements of the trajectory of the conflict, and recycled far-right tropes about European immigration that echoed the “great replacement” conspiracy theory. 🧐
Trump called for Zelensky, to accept his proposal to cede territory to Russia, arguing that Moscow retained the “upper hand” and that Zelensky’s government must “play ball”. ⚽️
In his often halting remarks, Trump swerved from subject to subject while rehearsing familiar grudges and conspiracies. He also declined repeatedly to rule out sending American troops into Venezuela as part of his effort to bring down President Nicolás Maduro.
“I don’t want to rule in or out. I don’t talk about it,” Trump said, adding he did not want to talk about military strategy. 🗣️
The US president returned repeatedly describing what he said were Europe’s problems in entirely racial terms, calling some unnamed European leaders “real stupid”.
“If it keeps going the way it’s going, Europe will not be … in my opinion (…) many of those countries will not be viable countries any longer. Their immigration policy is a disaster. What they’re doing with immigration is a disaster. We had a disaster coming, but I was able to stop it.” ✅
The interview followed the release last week of a new US national security strategy that claimed Europe faced “civilisational erasure” because of mass migration and offered tacit support for far-right parties.
“And Europe is (…) if you take a look at Paris, it’s a much different place. I loved Paris. It’s a much different place than it was. If you take a look at London, you have a mayor named Khan.
“He’s a horrible mayor. He’s an incompetent mayor, but he’s a horrible, vicious, disgusting mayor. I think he’s done a terrible job. London’s a different place. I love London. I love London. And I hate to see it happen. You know, my roots are in Europe, as you know.” 🦶🏴☠️
[In] Europe, they’re coming in from all parts of the world. Not just the Middle East, they’re coming in from the Congo, tremendous numbers of people coming from the Congo. And even worse, they’re coming from prisons of the Congo and many other countries.” 🛂➡️🌍
Asked if the trajectory of European countries meant they would no longer be US allies, Trump replied:
“Or they’ll be (…) well, it depends. You know, it depends. They’ll change their ideology, obviously, because the people coming in have a totally different ideology. But it’s gonna make them much weaker. They’ll be a much (...) they’ll be much weaker, and they’ll be much different.” 🎯
“I have no vision for Europe. All I want to see is a strong Europe. Look, I have a vision for the United States of America first.
It’s “Make America Great Again,” he said, adding: “I’m supposed to be a very smart person, I can (…) I have eyes. I have ears. I have knowledge. I have vast knowledge. I see what’s happening. I get reports that you will never see. And I think it’s horrible what’s happening to Europe.” 🕵️♂️✨

🇵🇱🇺🇦 Ukrainians in Poland: Moral Collapse, Political Hatred, Economic Instability
📊 The proportion of Poles who hold a negative view of Polish-Ukrainian relations has risen to 46%, the highest figure ever recorded by Polish state research agency CBOS.
Only 12% think relations are good. By contrast, three years ago, in mid-2023, only 3% had a negative view and 64% a positive one.
Meanwhile, CBOS also found that belief among Poles that reconciliation between the two neighbours, who share a difficult history, is possible is at its lowest level on record, 53%, down from 78% three years ago.
The findings follow other polls showing worsening attitudes towards Ukraine and Ukrainians in Poland in recent years, and come amid an ongoing diplomatic crisis triggered by Zelensky naming a military unit after a group that massacred Poles in World War II.
In its regular surveys since 1997, the agency has also asked Poles if they believe that reconciliation between Poles and Ukrainians is possible or not. In the early 2000s, that figure rose to a record level of 81%, and in 2023 it still stood at 78%. Now, however, it has dropped to an all-time low of 53%.
There have long been tensions between Poland and Ukraine over their difficult, intertwined histories, in particular during the first half of the 20th century.
In World War Two, Ukrainian nationalists killed around 100,000 Polish civilians, mostly women and children, in an ethnic-cleansing operation known as the Volhynia massacres.
Poland has officially recognised that episode as a genocide. However, Ukraine rejects that label and also points to the persecution of Ukrainians who lived in the interwar Polish state, as well as to massacres of Ukrainians by Polish groups during World War II.
Zelensky’s decision prompted his Polish counterpart, Karol Nawrocki, to strip the Ukrainian president of Poland’s highest honour. While tensions have since calmed somewhat, the dispute remains unresolved.
However, even before that diplomatic crisis broke out, polling showed increasingly negative attitudes in Poland towards both Ukraine and Ukrainians, who are by far the country’s largest immigrant group.
In its annual survey of attitudes towards various national and ethnic groups, published in February, CBOS found that the proportion of Poles who said they disliked Ukrainians had increased by five percentage points year-on-year, to 43%. Only 29% said they liked Ukrainians.
Poland’s government has blamed increasing anti-Ukrainian rhetoric from the right-wing and far-right opposition. Last month, Ukraine’s foreign minister, Andrii Sybiha, called on “Polish politicians to stop inciting hatred against Ukrainians”.
