Term of the Week: Ambiguity Aversion

Ever found yourself choosing the safer option just because it feels more certain?
That’s Ambiguity Aversion — our tendency to prefer known risks over unknown ones.

First introduced by Daniel Ellsberg in 1961, this concept explains why we often pick clarity over uncertainty — even when the odds might be the same.

In simple terms, it’s our bias towards the familiar and predictable.

Term of the Week: Gray Rhino

Coined by Michele Wucker, the term Gray Rhino refers to a highly probable, high-impact threat that is often recognized but ignored until it escalates into a crisis.

Unlike Black Swans, which symbolize rare and unpredictable events, Gray Rhinos represent risks that are visible and foreseeable — yet frequently neglected in decision-making processes.

Examples include climate change, financial instability, political unrest, and rising debt — challenges that demand timely recognition and proactive response.
