Pongal, in Tamil, signifies overflowing abundance, observed during the vibrant four-day harvest festival in the auspicious month of Thai. Rituals involve boiling newly harvested rice until it spills over, a potent symbol of prosperity. Families unite, embellishing homes with kolam designs, exchanging sakkarai pongal sweets, nurturing community joy and cohesion.

As Christians, in addition to embracing diverse cultures and fostering interreligious dialogue, we express gratitude towards God for creation and human endeavours. Some draw parallels between Pongal and Christian principles such as the Spirit's outpouring and the Eucharist, reflecting God's historic abundant love. We also believe that the overflowing grace of God should inspire sharing food and life, particularly with those facing hardships.

This event is organized together by 5 churches in Negeri District ( Church of Visitation, Church of St John Marie Vianney, Church of the Immaculate Conception of Blessed Virgin Mary, Church of St Aloysius & Church of St Theresa). This Eucharistic congress is an assembly that wants to manifest love for Christ in the Eucharist and to bear witness before the world to God’s infinite love for humanity. It going to be a great event for all of us especially in restoring faith even stronger, especially after the Pandemic Era. There will be many events/sessions that will be happening throughout the 2 days including Holy Hour, Overnight Blessed Sacrament Adoration, Mass explained, Miracles of Eucharist, Liturgical dance, Bible Skits Eucharistic Procession, and many more.
