Pongal, in Tamil, signifies overflowing abundance, observed during the vibrant four-day harvest festival in the auspicious month of Thai. Rituals involve boiling newly harvested rice until it spills over, a potent symbol of prosperity. Families unite, embellishing homes with kolam designs, exchanging sakkarai pongal sweets, nurturing community joy and cohesion.

As Christians, in addition to embracing diverse cultures and fostering interreligious dialogue, we express gratitude towards God for creation and human endeavours. Some draw parallels between Pongal and Christian principles such as the Spirit's outpouring and the Eucharist, reflecting God's historic abundant love. We also believe that the overflowing grace of God should inspire sharing food and life, particularly with those facing hardships.
