📈 BITCOIN PUSHES ABOVE $85K AFTER COOLER U.S. INFLATION
Bitcoin climbed to around $85,400 after new U.S. inflation data came in softer than economists expected.
August PCE inflation showed:
• Headline PCE: 3.4% YoY
• Expected: 3.7%
• Core PCE: 3.0%
• Expected: 3.3%
The softer print helped ease pressure from Treasury yields and reduced expectations for another Federal Reserve rate hike in October.
Bitcoin gained roughly 1.4% over 24 hours following the release.
Important:
One inflation report does NOT determine the Fed’s next move.
Bitcoin remains highly sensitive to interest-rate expectations and long-term Treasury yields.
But the bigger picture has changed dramatically:
BTC is now up roughly 45% over the quarter, its strongest quarterly performance since 2024.
The inflation data gave Bitcoin another push.
Now the market has to prove it can hold above $85K.

🏦 BITCOIN ETFs PULL IN $2.4 BILLION IN THEIR BIGGEST WEEK SINCE 2025
Institutional Bitcoin demand just posted one of its strongest weeks in nearly a year.
U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted approximately $2.4 billion in net inflows during the week ending September 25.
That was their largest weekly inflow since October 2025.
Even more notable:
Bitcoin ETF flows for 2026 are now back in positive territory.
The turnaround has been sharp:
• Mid-July: roughly -$5.8B YTD
• Late September: roughly +$934M YTD
• Last week alone: +$2.4B
Most of the week's demand arrived early, with nearly $1 billion flowing into the products on Monday.
Important:
ETF inflows do NOT guarantee Bitcoin's price will immediately rise.
Flows can reverse, and macro conditions still matter.
But they reveal something important beneath the price chart:
Large pools of regulated capital are allocating to Bitcoin again.
Two months ago, 2026 ETF flows were deeply negative.
Now they're positive.

🏛 CITI RAISES ITS 12-MONTH BITCOIN FORECAST TO $113,000
Citigroup has sharply increased its Bitcoin price forecast.
The bank now expects BTC to reach $113,000 over the next 12 months.
Its previous forecast was:
$82,000
That is a roughly 38% increase in Citi's target.
The bank pointed to several factors behind the upgrade:
• Renewed Bitcoin ETF inflows
• Increasing crypto market activity
• More favorable macroeconomic conditions
• Improving investor demand
The timing is notable.
Bitcoin spent much of 2026 under pressure as high interest rates and weak risk appetite weighed on crypto markets.
Now ETF flows are recovering and BTC has staged a major Q3 rebound.
Important:
This is a bank forecast — NOT a guaranteed price target.
Macro conditions, yields, ETF demand and market liquidity can all change quickly.
But the shift itself matters:
One of Wall Street's largest banks just moved its Bitcoin expectations substantially higher.
Institutional sentiment is changing again.

₿ STRATEGY BUYS ANOTHER 1,665 BTC — HOLDINGS REACH 847,666 BITCOIN
Strategy has added another large block of Bitcoin to its treasury.
According to its latest SEC filing, the company purchased:
• 1,665 BTC
• Cost: $142.7 million
• Average price: $85,681 per BTC
That brings Strategy's total holdings to:
847,666 BTC
The company has spent approximately $63.95 billion building the position, with an overall average acquisition price of about $75,437 per Bitcoin.
Important distinction:
The latest purchase was funded using approximately $142.7 million in net proceeds from MSTR stock sales.
Strategy is effectively continuing to use the public capital markets to expand its Bitcoin treasury.
Its model now connects:
• Equity markets
• Preferred securities
• Corporate financing
• Bitcoin accumulation
Whatever happens to BTC price in the short term, the scale is becoming difficult to ignore.
One public company now controls more than 847,000 BTC.

⚡ CORE LIGHTNING WARNS ATTACKERS ARE TARGETING UNPATCHED NODES
Core Lightning has issued an urgent security warning to Bitcoin Lightning node operators.
The team says it has received reports that attackers are targeting nodes running:
v26.06.7 or earlier.
Operators are being told to upgrade to:
v26.06.8
The update has been available since September 22 and addresses several confirmed issues, including:
• A crash-on-send bug
• REST requests that can exhaust node memory
• A channel-closing flaw that could result in funds being lost through a penalty mechanism
Important:
This is NOT a vulnerability in Bitcoin’s base layer.
The issue affects Core Lightning, one implementation of the Lightning Network.
Bitcoin’s consensus rules and the Bitcoin blockchain itself are not affected.
Also important:
Core Lightning has not publicly identified exactly which vulnerabilities attackers are exploiting.
And there are currently no publicly confirmed reports of funds being lost through the attacks.
But the warning has now moved beyond a theoretical vulnerability.
Unpatched Lightning infrastructure is reportedly being actively targeted.
Running your own node gives you sovereignty.
It also means running your own security infrastructure.

🏛 SEC PROPOSES NEW CRYPTO CUSTODY RULES FOR INVESTMENT FUNDS
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has proposed a new framework for how investment advisers and regulated funds can custody Bitcoin and other crypto assets.
The proposal would create a specific regulatory pathway for:
• Registered investment advisers
• Investment companies
• Business development companies
Among the biggest changes:
Crypto could be held through state-chartered trust companies.
And under certain circumstances, investment advisers could custody crypto assets themselves.
SEC Chairman Paul Atkins said existing custody rules have not kept pace with the growth of the crypto market.
Important distinction:
This is a PROPOSAL — not a final rule.
The public comment period will remain open for 60 days after the proposal is published in the Federal Register.
And “self-custody” here does NOT simply mean every investor holding their own private keys.
It refers to limited circumstances where an adviser itself can act as custodian for client assets.
For Bitcoin, the bigger development is institutional infrastructure.
Asset managers may eventually have another compliant route to hold BTC directly instead of relying entirely on ETFs or external custodians.
The rails around institutional Bitcoin keep expanding.

📉 U.S. 10-YEAR YIELD HITS 5.34% AS TREASURY BUYS BACK $6B OF BONDS
Bitcoin is entering another major macro test.
The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield briefly reached approximately:
5.34%
That is its highest level since 2002.
At the same time, the U.S. Treasury used the full $6 billion limit of its latest long-term bond buyback.
Investors submitted roughly $46.4 billion of bonds for sale.
Treasury accepted $6 billion.
Why does this matter for Bitcoin?
Higher Treasury yields increase the return investors can earn from government debt.
That can make risk assets less attractive and tighten financial conditions across markets.
Bitcoin has still managed to trade in the mid-$80,000 range despite yields reaching multi-decade highs.
Important distinction:
A Treasury bond buyback is NOT the same thing as Federal Reserve quantitative easing.
Treasury is repurchasing older government debt as part of its debt-management and market-liquidity operations.
The Fed is not simply printing $6 billion and buying Bitcoin-supportive assets.
For BTC, the bigger battle remains clear:
Institutional demand is improving.
But the cost of money is still extremely high.
Bitcoin is now trying to rally against some of the highest U.S. yields in more than two decades.

₿ BLOCK LAUNCHES MASS-MARKET BITCOIN CAMPAIGN AIMED AT 60M AMERICANS
Jack Dorsey’s Block is making a much bigger push to move Bitcoin beyond investing.
The company has launched its first major Bitcoin consumer advertising campaign:
“Bitcoin Does.”
Block says the campaign is aimed at roughly:
60 MILLION “BITCOIN-CURIOUS” AMERICANS
Instead of focusing on BTC price appreciation, the campaign presents Bitcoin as money that can actually be used.
The rollout includes:
• YouTube
• X
• Instagram
• Meta platforms
• Fox Sports television
• Selected cinema screenings
The campaign is expected to run through December 31.
This comes after Block spent years building Bitcoin infrastructure across its products.
Cash App already supports Bitcoin.
Square has been expanding Bitcoin payment acceptance for merchants.
And Bitkey gives users another route into Bitcoin self-custody.
Important:
An advertising campaign does NOT equal adoption.
The real test will be whether people actually start using Bitcoin for payments rather than simply buying and holding it.
But the strategy is notable.
Institutional adoption asks:
“Who will hold Bitcoin?”
Block is asking a different question:
“Who will actually use it?”

📈 BITCOIN PUSHES TOWARD $87K — THEN SELLERS STEP IN
Bitcoin started the week with another attempt to break out of its recent range.
BTC climbed to approximately:
$86,950
That brought Bitcoin within roughly $500 of its late-September high near $87,400.
The move followed softer U.S. employment data, which reduced pressure on the Federal Reserve to keep interest rates higher.
At the same time:
• Bitcoin gained roughly 1.5%
• U.S. 10-year yield eased toward 5.25%
• Nasdaq closed at a record on Friday
• Asian equities opened the week higher
But Bitcoin could not hold the entire move.
BTC pulled back below $86,000 after approaching $87K.
Important:
This is now the SECOND recent rally to stall below the same resistance zone.
Last week, BTC also surged after softer inflation data before giving back part of the move.
That makes the area around:
$87,000 — $87,400
one of the most important short-term levels on the chart.
A clean break would put Bitcoin at its highest level in roughly eight months.
Until then, buyers are still knocking on the same door.

🏦 BITCOIN ETFs START OCTOBER WITH $134.4M IN NET INFLOWS
U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs have started October in positive territory.
The funds recorded:
• October 1: +$102.7M
• October 2: +$31.7M
Total:
+$134.4 MILLION
The inflows came immediately after Bitcoin ETFs recorded approximately $148.7 million in net outflows on September 30.
That outflow had ended a nine-session inflow streak.
Even with that interruption, September was one of the strongest months for Bitcoin ETF demand in nearly a year.
Important:
$134 million is NOT an unusually large amount for the Bitcoin ETF market.
There have been individual sessions with substantially larger flows.
What matters is the direction.
Institutional Bitcoin demand remained positive through both of October's first trading sessions.
And that demand is arriving while BTC is again testing the upper end of its recent price range.
Price is approaching resistance.
ETF capital is still coming in.
Now we see whether the two trends reinforce each other.

🇺🇸 NEW U.S. CRYPTO TAX PLAN KEEPS BITCOIN PAYMENTS TAXABLE
A new Senate proposal would rewrite major parts of how digital assets are taxed in the United States.
Senator Steve Daines has released the:
ADAPT Act
— Aligning Digital Assets with Principles of Taxation Act.
The proposal includes new rules covering:
• Stablecoin payments
• Network transaction fees
• Wash sales
• Trading
• Staking
• Lending
• Digital asset investment products
One detail is especially important for Bitcoin users:
Spending BTC would generally STILL count as a taxable disposal.
That means using Bitcoin to buy goods or services could continue to require calculating a capital gain or loss.
Meanwhile, qualifying dollar stablecoin payments would receive much broader tax relief.
The proposal does include a Bitcoin-relevant exemption:
Crypto network fees of up to $10 could avoid gain-or-loss recognition under certain conditions.
It would also extend traditional wash-sale rules to digital assets.
Important:
This is proposed legislation.
It is NOT currently U.S. tax law.
But the distinction is worth watching.
Washington is trying to make crypto taxation easier.
So far, however, spending Bitcoin itself is not receiving the same broad exemption as spending qualifying stablecoins.
For Bitcoin as everyday money, that remains a major tax friction point.

⚙️ BITCOIN DEVELOPER PETER TODD TAKES OVER MARA'S PRIVATE MEMPOOL
Long-time Bitcoin developer Peter Todd has joined the MARA Foundation as lead maintainer of:
SLIPSTREAM
Slipstream is MARA's private Bitcoin transaction-submission system.
Instead of broadcasting a transaction across Bitcoin's public peer-to-peer network first, users can submit transactions directly to MARA Pool.
That can allow transactions to remain out of the public mempool until they are included in a block.
Why does that matter?
Private transaction submission can be useful for:
• Transactions rejected by standard relay policies
• Security-sensitive transactions
• Specialized Bitcoin research
• Reducing information exposure before confirmation
Slipstream has already been used for unusual and non-standard Bitcoin transactions.
Todd is particularly relevant to the role.
His Bitcoin work includes:
• Bitcoin Core contributions
• Replace-by-Fee development
• OpenTimestamps
• Transaction relay and mempool research
Important distinction:
Slipstream does NOT create a second Bitcoin network.
And it does NOT change Bitcoin's consensus rules.
It changes how transactions reach a miner BEFORE they are confirmed.
That distinction matters.
Bitcoin consensus determines what blocks are valid.
Mempool policy determines which unconfirmed transactions nodes are willing to relay.
With one of Bitcoin's most experienced transaction-relay developers now leading Slipstream, private mempools are becoming a much more serious part of Bitcoin infrastructure.

🔐 U.S. TREASURY DROPS PROPOSED RULES TARGETING SELF-CUSTODY WALLETS AND MIXERS
The U.S. Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network has withdrawn two long-running crypto proposals.
The first targeted transactions involving:
SELF-CUSTODY WALLETS
Under the 2020 proposal, banks and money-service businesses would have faced additional recordkeeping and identity-verification requirements for certain transfers involving unhosted wallets.
The proposal included:
• Recordkeeping above $3,000
• Reporting requirements above $10,000
• Additional counterparty information requirements
FinCEN has now withdrawn the proposal without turning it into a final rule.
The agency also withdrew a separate 2023 proposal targeting:
CRYPTO MIXING TRANSACTIONS
That proposal would have treated certain mixing activity as a class of transactions of primary money-laundering concern.
Important:
This does NOT eliminate existing U.S. AML, sanctions or suspicious-activity requirements.
Regulated exchanges and financial institutions still have compliance obligations.
And FinCEN can propose different rules in the future.
But two proposals that had hung over Bitcoin self-custody and privacy tools for years are now officially being abandoned.
For Bitcoin, the distinction matters.
Holding your own keys remains one thing.
Requiring financial institutions to report additional information simply because funds move to self-custody would have been another.
That specific framework is now off the table.

🏛 CFTC BEGINS BUILDING A FEDERAL FRAMEWORK FOR LEVERAGED CRYPTO TRADING
The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission has opened a new rulemaking process for crypto markets.
The agency is seeking public comment on rules covering certain retail crypto transactions involving:
• Leverage
• Margin
• Financing
The proposal could also create a new regulated platform category specifically for crypto:
CRYPTO ASSET MARKETS
These venues would operate under a federal CFTC framework designed specifically for crypto transactions.
The CFTC says the rules would focus on areas including:
• Market manipulation
• Consumer protection
• Industry-specific compliance standards
• Federal market supervision
The comment period will remain open for:
60 DAYS
Important distinction:
These are NOT final regulations.
The CFTC has published an Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking.
That means the agency is gathering information before deciding exactly what the final rules should look like.
Another important point:
Congress has still not passed a comprehensive U.S. crypto market-structure law.
So the CFTC is attempting to build this framework using authority it already has under existing commodities law.
For Bitcoin markets, this could matter most at the leveraged trading layer.
Spot BTC itself is decentralized.
The exchanges, brokers and financing systems built around it are becoming increasingly regulated.
