Market-led tightening: The bond selloff is pushing up mortgage rates, corporate borrowing costs, and high-yield debt expenses, tightening conditions before central banks act. Swap-implied hikes across 8 major economies fell from 717bps in September to ~539bps, down 178bps.

Term premium: The US 10Y term premium is ~0.98%, the highest since 2014. Government financing needs, fiscal risk, and AI infrastructure investment are adding pressure on the long end. Auction demand has improved, but long-term supply concerns remain.

CPI test: Nomura expects September core CPI at +0.227% MoM (vs 0.290% in August), but gasoline up 9.3% could push headline CPI to ~+0.58% MoM.

Fed: Musalem says more tightening may be needed over the next 6 to 9 months.

📍 The question is how much tightening bonds have already delivered. If energy inflation spreads, hikes and higher yields could stack up.
