❗️ Xabi Alonso believes Maxence Lacroix’s leadership and competitive nature have helped the centre-back quickly become an important member of his Chelsea team.

🗣 Xabi Alonso on the difficulty of dominating games in the Premier League:

“I’ve said several times that achieving total dominance, controlling a game completely without facing problems like you might in other leagues, is difficult in the Premier League unless you’ve become a very, very great team.

“Even in the first half against Everton, at 0-0, we had difficult spells — ten minutes of corners, throw-ins, corners, throw-ins.

“Getting through those moments and saying, ‘Stay calm, lads. We know what we have to do, we’ve prepared for this, and the momentum will turn,’ is fundamental to me.”

🗣 Maxence Lacroix on Chelsea’s clash with Tottenham:

“Everyone was talking about this game when I signed for Chelsea. People kept telling me, ‘The Tottenham game is going to be difficult.’

“My response was simple: we’re Chelsea, and normally, we should be beating Tottenham. That’s what we do, and that’s what we’re going to do.”

📉 Horror stats:

• Spurs gained just their second away win in 35 attempts against Chelsea in the Premier League (D11 L22) and their first since April 2018 (3-1).

• Spurs have beaten Chelsea in all competitions at Stamford Bridge while keeping a clean sheet for the first time since December 1986 (also 2-0).

• Chelsea failed to score at home in a Premier League London derby for just the second time in their last 17 such games, after a 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace on MD1 last season.

📉 The worst defences in the Premier League this season:

1. Crystal Palace — 17 goals conceded
2. Ipswich Town — 16 goals conceded
3. Coventry City — 15 goals conceded
4. Chelsea — 15 goals conceded
5. Newcastle United — 14 goals conceded

Chelsea already among the league’s worst defences. There’s serious work to be done at the back.

🗣 Maxence Lacroix on Penders’ mistake:

“He’s a young goalkeeper with a lot of talent, and he’ll learn from this experience. Mistakes happen in football, just as they do in life. We all make them, and we need to support him — which we will. We’re behind him.

“He’ll help us this season, and now it’s our turn to help him.”
