Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner threatened to cut off intelligence sharing with Ukraine if Kyiv continued striking Russian oil refineries despite repeated requests from Trump to stop, a Ukrainian official told Axios.

A U.S. official denied that any such threat was made, saying the envoys instead stressed that Washington provides Ukraine with intelligence and munitions and that Kyiv should avoid actions that harm American consumers.

The U.S. reportedly urged Israel to launch a unilateral strike on Iran during talks over the past two weeks, rather than carrying out an American or joint operation.

Washington wanted Israel to bear the political risks ahead of the U.S. midterm elections, believing a strike could hurt Trump politically but benefit Netanyahu ahead of Israel’s elections.

Israeli military chief Eyal Zamir warned U.S. officials that such an attack would likely force Israel to postpone its elections. Washington has reportedly dropped the demand for now.

The proposed strike was driven by intelligence indicating that Iran is rapidly rebuilding its drone and ballistic missile production capabilities despite months of U.S. and Israeli attacks.

NEW: The first Russian diesel cargo heading for the US left St. Petersburg on 22 September, two weeks before Trump announced the deal.

The Greek-flagged tanker MINERVA ZEN is carrying ~275,000 barrels of diesel/gasoil and is due at the US East Coast around 11–12 October.

Analysts note the promised volumes are still only days’ worth of US distillate demand, and Russian diesel output has been cut by Ukrainian refinery strikes.

Ukraine is losing jets to its own missiles.

Soviet-era R-60s from the 1960s are exploding on launch, says Come Back Alive chief Taras Chmut.

Chmut said Ukraine lacks modern short-range air-to-air missiles like the AIM-9 Sidewinder, forcing pilots to use Cold War–era R-60s and R-73s against Russian drones and cruise missiles.

"It's an old Soviet missile from the 60s that can explode at the moment of launch. And there have been such cases — we have lost several planes because of this."

A confirmed case: a MiG-29 crashed near Odesa on 10 August 2026 after catching fire during missile launch on an anti-drone mission — the pilot ejected injured but alive.

Chmut said there is "currently no alternative."

Yemen’s Houthis struck Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport on Saturday, directly hitting Terminal 3, causing injuries and forcing its evacuation.

Saudi officials are increasingly concerned that continued attacks could damage the economy, disrupt tourism and business travel, and strain limited missile interceptor supplies.
