πŸ‘One seed at a time, protecting the future of food
πŸ—£Subtitle: Farsi | English

πŸ‘£The wheat, corn and rice we grow today may not thrive in a future threatened by climate change. πŸ‘Facebook's role in Brexit -- and the threat to democracy
πŸ—£Subtitle: Farsi | English | Turkish

πŸ‘£In an unmissable talk, journalist Carole Cadwalladr digs into one of the most perplexing events in recent times: the UK's super-close 2016 vote to leave the European Union. Tracking the result to a barrage of misleading Facebook ads targeted at vulnerable Brexit swing voters -- and linking the same players and tactics to the 2016 US presidential election -- Cadwalladr calls out the \"gods of Silicon Valley\" for being on the wrong side of history and asks: Are free and fair elections a thing of the past?

πŸ‘ How CRISPR lets us edit our DNA
πŸ—£Subtitle: Farsi | English | Turkish

πŸ‘£Geneticist Jennifer Doudna co-invented a groundbreaking new technology for editing genes, called CRISPR-Cas9. The tool allows scientists to make precise edits to DNA strands, which could lead to treatments for genetic diseases ... but could also be used to create so-called \"designer babies.\" Doudna reviews how CRISPR-Cas9 works -- and asks the scientific community to pause and discuss the ethics of this new tool.

πŸ‘The brain may be able to repair itself -- with help
πŸ—£Subtitle: Farsi | English | Turkish

πŸ‘£Through treating everything from strokes to car accident traumas, neurosurgeon Jocelyne Bloch knows the brain's inability to repair itself all too well. But now, she suggests, she and her colleagues may have found the key to neural repair: Doublecortin-positive cells. Similar to stem cells, they are extremely adaptable and, when extracted from a brain, cultured and then re-injected in a lesioned area of the same brain, they can help repair and rebuild it. \"With a little help,\" Bloch says, \"the brain may be able to help itself.\"

πŸ‘What happens when your DNA is damaged? - Monica Menesini

πŸ—£Subtitle: Farsi | English
πŸ‘£The DNA in just one of your cells gets damaged tens of thousands of times per day. Because DNA provides the blueprint for the proteins your cells need to function, this damage can cause serious issuesβ€”including cancer. Fortunately, your cells have ways of fixing most of these problems, most of the time. Monica Menesini details the processes of DNA damage and repair.

πŸ‘A new way to study the brain's invisible secrets
πŸ—£Subtitle: Farsi | English | Turkish

πŸ‘£Neuroengineer Ed Boyden wants to know how the tiny biomolecules in our brains generate emotions, thoughts and feelings -- and he wants to find the molecular changes that lead to disorders like epilepsy and Alzheimer's. Rather than magnify these invisible structures with a microscope, he wondered: What if we physically enlarge them and make them easier to see? Learn how the same polymers used to make baby diapers swell could be a key to better understanding our brains.

πŸ‘How to transform sinking cities into landscapes that fight floods
πŸ—£Subtitle: Farsi | English | Turkish

πŸ‘£From London to Tokyo, climate change is causing cities to sink -- and our modern concrete infrastructure is making us even more vulnerable to severe flooding, says landscape architect and TED Fellow Kotchakorn Voraakhom. But what if we could design cities to help fight floods? In this inspiring talk, Voraakhom shows how she developed a massive park in Bangkok that can hold a million gallons of rainwater, calling for more climate change solutions that connect cities back to nature.
